“While trying to be funny please get your facts straight - "Are those Hong Kong gazillionaires ..." -
should be "China Mainland gazillionaires". When was the last time you landed in Hong Kong??
Also "Hongcouver" was coined in the 80s by Vancouver Sun. No one dares use the term until you
made in London banana, as you admit yourself, endeavor to bring the Sino/Nippon conflict in the South China sea over a piece of rock all the way across the Pacific to this Lotusland which you
may now designate as SINOCOUVER.
Another data based question which you should do some research on before spitting of your banana mouth is = How many wealthy Middle East investors/immigrants have landed in BC?
By the way, when was the last time you graced the Middle Kingdom?”

“NO, it was NOT coined by the Vancouver Sun...it was USED by them, and by the National Geographic until they were forced to remove it from the cover of reprints of their magazine's edition about Vancouver....but it was coined by Chinese street youths as a brag about the "takeover"....meaning of Vancouver by THEM, not of Hong Kong by the PRC...and the Sun repeated that brag..... The Sun DIDN'T coin it, the QUOTED it. Like "Chinaman" it was coined by the Chinese themselves until others among them decided to complain about it....
Most white people, those from BC that is, use it ironically, not in a racist way but more as a lament....I've heard Maritimers use it rather innocently, as a mild joke, without realizing the full scope of its meaning/use.....and on Wikipedia somebody had put that it was coined because of Vancouver's alleged resemblance to Hong Kong.....fiction, illusion, fabrication...of such are politicized mythologies coined....”
