“I would agree with you that he may not know those involved but please, don't play coy and naive: Rob Ford has made it abundantly clear how he feels about certain citizens of Toronto......he may not have instigated this particular incident, but he definitely fomented and gave tacit permission for the bigotry on display.”

“One can't help but notice that, many of the people yelling hateful/homophobic epithets are members of minority groups and immigrants.........speaks volumes to the quality of people we may be letting into the country. Sorry to be harsh and throw that reality at you but the camera isn't lying.”

“I hope you aren't implying that the people gathered around ford represent their wider ethnic communities, because by that logic Ford represents Canadian born white people. And they might not all be immigrants. Having white and non white friends and family born both here and abroad, gay and straight, I think it's accurate to say that all those people I know would be deeply offended by such a notion”

“the consequences of "multiculturalism" My friends in London can tell you all about it with the fundamentalist immigrants who came there, and most of the city isn't even livable anymore due to the militant beliefs and practices of some”

“Sigh.....once again, we are treated to a comment rife with ignorance. No, she's not bi-sexual......she married because, at the time of her marriage, many LGBT people were still 'pushed' by society to be straight. If you look at many older LGBT today, most went into marriages because of societal pressures. That's no longer the case and thus, you see many people coming out at 50, 60 and 70. As society has progressed, people from a time past are speaking their truth.”
“The cowardice, and yes it is cowardice, being shown by so many people is pathetic. Every day, men and women show affection with nary a concern or a by your leave but, when two men kiss, it's a moment for clutching pearls, grabbing fainting couches and all around hysteria. Worst still is the vile and duplicitous standard that many choose to overlook, that being when two women kiss.......and therein lies the greatest of lies. The days of heterocentric commonality are slowly giving way to a new paradigm: either deal with it or be cast unto the dustbin of history. In less than a generation, those who flipped over this will be seen in the same light as the KKK and Racists of the 50's & 60's.”
“Actually, he was killed because he was a thorn (no pun intended) in the side of the Pharisees and an inconvenience to the Roman Rulers of Judea. The mythos of his "dying for our sins" was written long after his death and was used to foment the rise of a new cult....later to be called Christianity.”
“It's amazing how 'brave' these people are, tweeting with such 'courage' behind a keyboard; knowing that, unlike Tom, their lives will amount to nothing but shallow relations and lonely regrets. We move forward as they, like their dinosaur cousins, move backward onto the dustbin of history. OUT, LOUD & PROUD!”

“Stephen Harper and the Conservatives have long held this view: that Canada should become part of the U.S. Ms. Francis is merely regurgitating much of what Harper has said behind closed doors. The problem is, Canadians are too afraid to call this what it is: TREASON. One can only hope that come 2015, the conservatives or, as they should be called, the Republican Party of Canada, lose the election and are reduced to a rump in the Parliament. For far too long, the conservatives have gone out of their way to slowly, but surely, push us towards annexation by the U.S........I believe that this is, in fact, their 'final solution.'”

“No, he wouldn't, at least not for long. Do you honestly think that if the U.S. and Canada merged there would be anything left of who we are? The Americans are an imperial power, always have been. Doubt me? Consider Manifest Destiny or the Monroe Doctrine.........not enough, then take a look at that most vile and duplicitous of manifesto's. The Project for the New American Century. I like Americans just fine, on their side of the 49th.”
Expatria on Oct 1, 2013 at 13:46:50
“And Canada is part of what imperial power ...don´t you have allegiance to a certain country across the pond. That´s the problem...countries are egocentric and ethnocentric .And why do you say there would be nothing left of your identity ...pitiful thinking Americans identityis much stronger than yours. Just consider it and all the implications for North America..it´s not a case of nationalism but a case of the things we share in common.”
“It's not an insult but it was presumptuous. Allow me to expand on the idea. What if the receipt said 1 white guy 2 black guys and 1 Jew. Think on it for a moment. The issue is why the descriptor? I too don't really have a problem with it, but I understand why others might. Personally, I would demand it be changed to say: Amazingly Handsome Leatherman.....but that's just me.”
“I wonder if those who so passionately support the bakery would be equally supportive of a gay business, a wedding planner for example, refusing a Christian couple because of the sincerely held belief Christians are responsible for the violence against gays? Just a thought. Something tells me, the howls would be heard in space.”
pattio66 on Sep 3, 2013 at 14:01:47
“Apparently, nobody supports the bakery passionately or not...there's a reason they're closing the shop.”
“"I was with you till that last part"........why? Why shouldn't gays start visiting violence upon their oppressors? Shouldn't Justice be tempered with some form of retribution?
I ask because it needs to be asked; but, more importantly, it needs to be answered.”
quipped on Apr 12, 2013 at 16:45:02
“I guess my answer is no. If i don't condone violence agains the oppressed, I can't condone it for the oppressors.
I suppose that I have never faced this type of oppression, because i am straight and white... so maybe i would feel more strongly about how to retaliate if something like this were to happen to me.
im not sure if justice should be met with retribution... because i think it would be contradictory to the concept of justice. What I do think is that people should marry whom they wish, and hospitals should be forced to comply. As this hospital didn't follow the law, the hospital and family should be forced to make up for this.
but as i said, my perspective is different. This just makes me sad. ”
“Applebee's really hasn't thought this through have they. Oh well, they can now join the Chic-fil-a crowd. Enjoy the short term uptick by Christanists and the long term loss in sales that will come after they're full.”
“Except that being gay is not a 'lifestyle' nor is it a choice......Christianity on the other hand, is very much a choice and indeed a 'lifestyle'
That you and others like you can't see this, is proof to your inability to use that brain your 'good lord' gave you.
Your hatred is so vile and transparent, Jesus must truly weep at how you have twisted His word into such evil. Christianity is no longer about the love of God; today, it is merely a cult of violence, hate and the purest of evils.”
“Sigh......Remember when Nero dealt with the Christians by feeding them to the Lions.....Good Times
Clearly, I'm being silly but I trust the point is made. Mr. Lively laments the loss of his rights because of the erroneous belief that people of faith are the only people deserving of rights, dignity of person or freedom. Most Christians, Jews and Mulsims seem, to a degree, believe this rather dubious claim. They are wrong of course and, if they aren't careful, they may find themselves on the receiving end of some very nasty pushback.
The bold and ridiculous claim that somehow, allowing gays to have rights and marry, will somehow lead to the end of humanity. Stupid does not do justice to describe these very backward people.”
“Sorry about that. It's that, well, I don't speak d'uh or bigot at all, I speak English, French, Japanese and Spanish. I guess that means I won't be attending any churches or tea party rallies anytime soon.”
