“You know what's more disturbing that what this young woman has done to herself? The media that objectifies a woman obviously suffering from some deep self image issues - the same media that feeds women a constant diet of "you're not good enough and you will never be" jumps at the chance to mock the illness they profit from. We all get that, right?”

“We already have Tea Baggers in Canada. They're called the WRP here. We don't need their ranks strengthened. Please keep the Tea Baggers behind the "open border".”

“Thankfully you didn't give them their shot to drive your province into the ditch. Good on ya Alberta”

“it doesn't qualify as a hate crime. It's vandalism, at best. But the word "bigot" doesn't fall into any category that would make it a hate crime.

Still, the red herring you through into the thread is impressive. Nice try, but Huffington Post readers tend to be of a higher intellect. I'd try shilling your "hate crime" theory over at The Sun. They LOVE that stuff there.”

“For your information, the Wildrose party's policy is to strike down any references to section 3 in the Alberta Human Rights Act that deals specifically with "hate speech". So... next time you may want to research the policy of the party you support before you give them your vote.

As for what constitutes "criminal activity".... if you want me to go there I will. But I doubt you want me to go there. I tend to get verbose about such things. I also tend to post links to news stories and written decisions from the Court of Queen's Bench. I'm a bit pedantic that way. I'm also a paralegal by trade. Worked in real estate law for a decade.

Just saying.”

“Let's not forget that the WRP want to abolish section 3 of the AHR act - the very section that deals with hate speech.

That's right. While James Steinhubl screams HATE CRIME!!!, the party he supports is working to have the very law that protects people from hate speech struck down.

Way to go, James. Good thing you researched your chosen party's policy before you gave them your vote.”

“Okay. So go find the culprit. I'll publish the vandal's name online and you can go after HIM while Anderson stages a coup that will take down a grassroots party.

Time well spent.”

Motion 312 - Don't Blame Stephen Harper or the CPC

Twin Highway 63 - Because You Can't Cure Stupid

Commented Sep 16, 2012 at 15:36:14 in Canada Alberta

“I am in complete agreement with the need to twin the highway on a STAT basis. That being said, your statement that "we cannot legislate stupidity" is only partially correct. We CAN institute tougher consequences and change the culture of NASCAR that is apparent on 63. Having spent 20 years of my early life on the road between Edmonton and Vancouver prior to the building of the Coquihalla, I never saw the nonsense that now occurs on both twinned and non-twinned highways in this province. It's time to change not only how we deal with dangerous drivers but a culture that seems to encourage it. That's not an argument against twinning - it's suggesting that this is a multi-faceted issue and all aspects of it must be examined and appropriately dealt with.”

Daryl Katz - No Champion of the City of Edmonton

Commented Sep 16, 2012 at 14:46:52 in Canada Alberta

“I'd strongly encourage you to read the history this city has with developers such as Mr. Katz who play the "bait and switch" when enticing our city council into such plans as this. Start with Triple 5 and the Ghermezians and the "iconic Eaton Center - a downtown lifestyle mall that will draw in tourists and receive international attention while revitalizing Edmonton's downtown core." You claim to see "the bigger picture" but what you aren't seeing is a longheld tactic on the part of developers: promise the moon for an agreed upon price, eventually deliver an asteroid that bears little resemblance to the original project but costs 30 - 40 percent more than the original project should've.

This is no longer about what "good" Katz has done in Edmonton. This is a business deal. Nothing more, nothing less. And the Katz group is doing everything they can to con our city council into the same "bait and switch" Triple 5 did in the 80's, while using the threat of moving the Oilers to get the general public to pressure city council into bending over. I suggest you take your heart out of the argument, take the opportunity to look at this from a business sense. Because at this point the arena deal makes NO sense.”
