“Where did I write that a person in a 3rd world country becomes a politician for philanthropy? You wrote: "Those in power in 3rd world nations are hardly in power for their people." That is a wrong generalization. They can be in power for the same reason any politician in any democracy is in power.

The Guatemalan president was democratically elected as well. Watch Oliver Stone's documentaries and read Noam Chomsky. You can cherry pick many examples on three continents.

"Any country that is 70% Catholic is hardly a democracy by US standards."

Why?

Are you saying that Italy, Poland, Ireland, France, Canada, etc., are not democracies? Are you saying that the country needs to be 70% evangelical to be a democracy? What about the Scandinavian countries which are mainly atheists? Are they democracies?

That's why it's called blowback (in regards to meddling in other countries).

Even ABC, CBS and NBC are not reliable. Watch the CBC documentary about a reporter from one of those channels, who filmed the bombing of Iraqi residential neighborhoods. None of these 3 networks will show it.”

“See my reply to Joe R.

China can argue that it was a civil war, not an invasion, similar to the U.S. fighting with the south during its civil war when the south wanted to separate. Also, Tibet was part of China for much longer than the south was a part of the U.S.

The U.S. and Britain should lead by example. Let the south separate, give all of the land (including Hawaii) back to the natives, set Northern Ireland Scotland free and then demand that China set Tibet free.

Even if both Tibet and the U.S. south can be classified as invasions, so what? Are you saying that China is seeking world domination because of Tibet, but the U.S. is not with invasions or manipulations in Chile, Guatemala, Cuba, Nicaragua, Brazil, Hawaii, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Vietnam, Philippines, etc., etc.? Please watch Oliver Stone's "Untold History of the U.S." to get the full list. Are you saying that China is seeking world domination with one foreign military base compared to America's 800 bases? I like to understand your math.

What is your point about the islands?”

Besides, China can argue that it was a civil war, not an invasion, similar to the U.S. fighting with the south during its civil war when the south wanted to separate.

“Watch Oliver Stone's "The Untold History of the U.S." to understand the lies. Read American academic professor Noam Chomsky to understand the lies.

Bush cheated on the election.

Yes, there are third world countries with horrible governments. But it's inaccurate to say that all of their leaders don't care about their people. Chavez's cared only for the poor natives. That's why he won elections. The elite didn't like this and got the help of the U.S. to overthrow him. Watch the Irish documentary called "The revolution that won't be televised" that shows an American helicopter take Chavez away during the coup.

Chile's Allende was a democratically elected President. The U.S. didn't like him so they asked Chile's military general to overthrow Allende. The general refused because he said in believed in democracy. The U.S. killed the general, orchestrated a coup and then Pinochet, a U.S. ally, became a dictator to torture and kill thousands of Chileans. Guatemala also had a democratically president who was overthrown by the U.S. and consequently a puppet dictator was installed. General Kasim was leader of Iraq and was favoring his oil exports to Russia. The U.S. recruited and trained Saddam Hussein to assassinate Kasim and then to round up and kill hundreds of Kasim's followers. Hussein, an U.S. ally, became dictator.

You don't have to be in the upper echelon to know the truth. The problem is that the majority relies on CNN only.”

“Sure, some of the leaders mentioned may care for some of the people. But they care about themselves more. The majority of politicians in the US become politicians for personal gain. So to imagine someone in a 3rd world country seeking power by crushing the opposition, is doing so for philanthropy, is in MHO, naive

"Chile's Allende was a democratically elected President."

Me thinks you cherry pick yer facts. Any country that is 70% Catholic is hardly a democracy by US standards.

Any time one country meddles in anothers politics, eventually it turns badly. Especially in Muslim dominated areas. And that will never change. And neither will the meddling.

“If you want to include Tibet, then you can include Northern Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii and most of the United States, which belonged to the natives. When the European conquerers landed on North America, scientists estimated that there was approximately the same population of natives as in Europe. Since then, by using biological weapons of mass destruction and guns, the conquerers killed most of the natives and stolen (by breaching American written land contracts) most of the land.

In addition to the above, watch Oliver Stone's documentary to get the list of countries on three continents that the U.S. exercised domination.”

China is not communist nor a dictatorship. Research China. Even if they are not, there is no implication that they are transparent. Democracies can lack transparency, as you had pointed out.

This is the part of lies and deception that the American government and media has put on the people. They have made people think that Hugo Chavez was a dictator (Chavez won two landslide elections), Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11, Vietnam was spreading communism, Vietnam attacked the US first, etc., etc.”

“Imagine this:

A Chinese reporter walks backward while he talks to the camera. He tells the camera that he is walking to the court where a trial is being held. American police officers are standing behind him and tell him to stop. The Chinese reporter pretends to not hear, ignores the police and continues pushing backwards into the cops. The American cops put their hands on the Chinese reporter's back and yells at him, but he continues pushing.

What do you think these American cops will do? Probably taser the Chinese reporter and throw him in jail.

CNN's reporter does exactly this and he claims that he is "manhandled". It looks completely staged. CNN's reporter should get an academy award for acting.

This is is typical CNN reporting quality, reminiscent of their reporting of the Iraq war when they only helped Bush beat the war drums, without doing any critical reporting. A few years after this debacle, CNN lies to the viewers with their new mantra: "Keeping Them Honest".

BBC is also critical of China. When Xu Jingtao visited London a few years ago, Brits protested China's oppression of Tibet. They were right to protest, but when is Britain going to liberate Northern Ireland and Scotland? Who invaded who? Britain formed a coalition of the willing, including the US, to invade China twice to push opium onto millions of Chinese, which made the Brits and certain Americans rich. Does BBC ever criticize Britain's and American's drug cartel in China?”

"Mr. Ford doesn’t need to fudge the numbers to claim success as a fiscal manager. The labour deal was a substantial achievement. So was contracting our garbage. Most impressive was the decision to stop using leftover money from one year’s budget to plug holes in the next."

Do you believe that perpetual deficits and debts is a livable society? Do you believe in stealing from children (http://www.newworldparty.org/2008/11/stealing-from-children.html), which is spending what we didn't earn and don't deserve and then forcing the future generations to pay for our "livable society"?”

“Thanks for providing the G&M article. It supports the claim that Ford is fiscally responsible.

G&M did not even refute Ford's claim of saving $600 million from efficiencies. We can debate some of G&M's claims. Cutting taxes by $200 million is big savings for the tax payers. With $200 million less income for City Hall, it will force them to be more prudent with how they spend money.

Nevertheless, according to your Globe and Mail article:

"Mr. Ford doesn’t need to fudge the numbers to claim success as a fiscal manager. The labour deal was a substantial achievement. So was contracting our garbage. Most impressive was the decision to stop using leftover money from one year’s budget to plug holes in the next."

The subway is another debate, as there are many advantages (increase worker productivity by reducing commute time, reduce traffic/pollution, etc.) and disadvantages (cost).

If you have two choices:

1) Mayor that doesn't have personal scandals, but wastes money and lets unions gouge millions of taxpayers.

2) Mayor that has personal scandals, but tries to save millions for millions of taxpayers.

Which one has the better impact? Remember, the most important issue to voters is money: http://www.newworldparty.org/2008/10/most-important-issue-to-voters-is-money.html

“The most important issue to me is a livable society. When a politician says he will cut taxes what he really means is eliminate services and/or impose user fees. The G&M article also shows that he cannot claim saving $1 billion. I want a Mayor that doesn't have personal scandals that tarnishes the reputation of a city and builds a livable city. If this was the private sector Mr. Ford would be shown the door.”

“What is your definition of stealing?

According to dictionary.com: "to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, especially secretly or by force"

The government will be taking trillions of dollars from the future generation to give to the current or previous generations, via deficits/debt, without permission from the future generations.

I did not hear anyone from the future say: "Please take my money, spend like crazy and I'll pay for it." Did you?

Debts are misleading. Debt implies that the current and previous generations who borrowed the money will pay it back...but they won't.

Deficits and debts are euphemistically referred to as "intergenerational transfer". However, this is spin. It implies that the receiving party agreed to the transfer. They did not.

Without the future generation's permission, we are stealing from them.”
