“Yes, they did. they gained contempt and fury from people with common sense and decency. Washington needs to stop playing King of the Mountain with the serious issues that face this nation. We need at least four strong political parties to give this constant two-party faceoff the boot once and for all.”
“Really? You mean there are a lot of people who actually don't want health care? The system we've had for years has closed many people out, including people who have already had catastrophic (and expensive to treat) illnesses such as cancer and lupus!!!
No, the law isn't perfect, but I am sure it will be refined over time as the kinks in the rules are worked out.”
“I'm so relieved that this priest revealed the truth about his very kind actions. I was actually terrified that so many people believed that a real guardian angel (from God) had appeared on the accident scene. Has anyone wondered where all the guardian angels were when the Jewish people were being fed into the "ovens"?? Didn't each of them have a personal guardian angel, too? Superstition is nonsense. It's time for America to grow up. Europe is way ahead of us and Asia is trouncing us in science. Get a grip. Hasn't anyone noticed that NO superstitious entities or happenings of ANY KIND have ever been proven? The "Bible" reads exactly like the mythological book it is. It is a book of extreme genocide, endless killing (supposedly ordered by Allah/Yahweh/God), slavery (also heartily approved of by this "God", who tells slaves to obey their masters and allows the masters to beat the slaves if they do not perform to their standards, etc.), gross abuse of females, an attempt to steal the life creation of the female by trying to have the first man exist FIRST (No man has ever brought life into this world. Without the womb of the woman to carry life, no children can be born), etc. And the Noah's Ark myth-----don't even get me started on that craziness!!!!”

“It wouldn't surprise me (naturally, though, I am an exception to this). That would explain people texting and looking at GPS info, etc., while driving down the road. That would explain people looking at their hand-held electronic devices and stepping off of curbs right into traffic or falling into manholes!!! That would explain newer music videos (when they were new, many were beautiful and actually were like little plays depicting what the songs were about) where everyone basically strips off and gyrates their pelvises at the camera at warp speed! I don't know what that has to do with music. Can't anyone just hold a microphone and sing into it????”
“Wow, aren't these primitive men kind, loving, and compassionate??? How dare they decide what a woman should or shouldn't do. Stop trying to control women. Haven't enough men injured and killed women over the centuries? It's time to stop the nonsense and the violence now. As for throwing rocks at the women---well, I see these monstrous men have been reading the "good book", which is full of tales of women (and occasionally men) being stoned!
Cast off superstition and start using some brainpower!”
Calamity Jack on May 13, 2013 at 14:13:52
“Ummmmm. God told them they get to decide what women should an shouldn't do. That's the problem with fundamentalists: You can't rationally debate something that an omnipotent being has imposed on you.
For example, 3,000 years ago lots of people died from eating under-cooked pork. Now we have meat thermometers, but since "God" told them not to eat pork (when it was probably seeing so many people die from eating it that convinced human beings that wrote the religious texts to adopt it as a rule), they can't rationally debate the prohibition today.
The same applies to rules for gender-relationships that were designed by MEN who were members of nomadic, subsistance farmers and herders living in a desert. If you write down that women should not be heard worshiping God, then the men didn't have to tell their women to be quiet... they could tell them that God wants them to be quiet and take all the priest jobs for themselves (which incidentially allowed them to keep writing the rules).
In one sense, religion-based gender roles is the ultimate in power-gerrymandering.”
“These women all need free medical care including, in Michelle's case, any plastic surgery she requires. These women were kept from continuing their education and building employment histories. They deserve to be supported financially. No doubt they will need massive psychological therapy and very probably medications to help ease anxiety. I'd like to know why someone doesn't look into how, in so many men around the world, the sex drive gets mixed up with the desire to commit violence. Are we afraid to face what we might find out?”
lessthanorly on May 13, 2013 at 16:11:41
“this has NOTHING to do with sex drive. it is all about wanting power and control. PERIOD.”

“Scientists should not be talking about souls since there has never been any evidence for the existence of souls. If scientists can somehow prove beyond any doubt that a soul exists (which will never happen), then they can talk about this. Science is supposed to be about logic.
As for NDEs, they are a bunch of nonsense! If you've ever undergone general anesthesia, you can understand how the mind easily gets confused if certain drugs are affecting it. Even "partial anesthesia"/"twilight sleep" can make the mind and body feel that strange things are occurring, even though they actually are not. The human mind is very suggestible, and some people do not understand this. Since I am in my senior years, I've spent many sad hours at the bedside of dying relatives. Not once have I witnessed any of them hearing voices from "another world" or talking with already dead family members. I have not heard any of them claim that someone is there to accompany them "home".”
james4bleak on Oct 8, 2013 at 23:53:43
“i think you need to do more research into what a NDE is . people experience these with the connections to their brain severed. anesthesia affects a connected and working brain. NDEs occur when the brain should not be experiencing anything.”

“How can something be even tested, let alone proved, unless postulated? That has got to be the dumbest thing I ever heard (no logic at all). Unless they can prove it, they can't talk about it..How did Newton prove gravity without the idea of it in his head, without testing, without proving? According to you, unless gravity was proved first, it should not have been talked/thought about seriously. How the hell can you scientifically test something, unless you take it seriously, have an idea, and test it? of course you cannot. Galileo, according to you, should not have thought about his idea seriously until someone proved it....hahaha,you have the order of science wrong...you have to HAVE THE IDEA, before you can PROVE THE IDEA.”
“Yes, women ditch these religions! They were made up by men who obviously despise women and consider them to be some kind of "lesser" creatures, even though the men were brought into the world by women! If women really feel a need for a religion, they should create one of their own.”
“Are you freakin' kidding me? Those mannequins are not remotely plus sized! As a matter of fact, they are quite slender, just not with all their "bones" sticking out. What's the matter with everyone? People are not supposed to be flat like a piece of cardboard. Perhaps people who have never sewn clothing from a pattern are unaware of size ranges. A size 12, for example, which is slender, but now considered huge, only has about a 34" bust (no, I'm not kidding--look the measurement charts up for yourself) and a 26" or smaller waist!!!!! You don't even need to wear a bra until you're about 32" or more in the bust! A lot of girls who are just reaching puberty have about that size bust before the hormones even kick in!!!!”
“Unless people are enormous, they often have the same life expectancy as the general public, or live even longer! In my extended family there were many heavyweights, but many of them lived into their late 80's or 90's, even back when the average life expectancy was 50 or less!
I suspect that there is some difference medically between people who are from slender stock, but bulk up, and people who inherited a very heavy bone structure, with very wide wristbones, shoulders, etc.”
“You don't need religion to have a code of ethics that you follow. As a matter of fact, you can formulate a much BETTER code of ethics without the interference of religion and all the intolerance it features.”

“I agree completely. Besides, the saddest part to me is that the rules for "good moral conduct" set forth in the Bible are not morals, they are dictations. Do it or get punished. That's fear-based behavior not understood societal behavior. The God of the Bible is not a moral character, but a dictator.”

“How would you know if a code of ethics is better over another? What standards would you use?”
“Most atheists are not trying to press their atheism on others, although they might be willing to discuss why they don't believe in blind faith. They are not going door to door to try to press their beliefs on others. Millions of people have been murdered by people who believe that "God" is on their side and wants them to eliminate those whom they consider to be their enemies. Why are people scared of logic and common sense?”
“It is time for the nonsense that says you have to be religious to be good and decent to stop.
People can be good because they don't want others to be distressed or physically harmed.
They can be good because they made the DECISION to behave themselves. That's a much higher good, in fact, than doing certain things only because you're afraid that an angry god will throw you into a hell of fire if you don't. Crazy religious nonsense has led to mass atrocities such as the Crusades, stoning, "witch" burning, many wars, etc. It has people kowtowing to an unseen, unheard god and singing macabre songs about being a worthless wretch.”

“Intermittent explosive disorder (extreme and out of control anger) was in at least several generations of my family, in males only. Our family home had holes in the wall put there by one of my brothers. He would also break out the glass in the door. My father did not seek treatment for his disorder, and my brother also never sought or received treatment. They both felt perfectly justified in screaming over nothing, or over the most trivial things in the world!
If you suffer from this disorder, you have no excuse not to seek help with it. Perhaps you need an anti-anxiety med. or medication for depression. At any rate, don't inflict your problem on others. It's not fair and it can ruin lives. Perhaps you should not have children, because it's pretty clear that there is a genetic component to this condition. Try to get help in getting on an even keel. Life is too short for all that unnecessary drama!”
“Well, I do see big, obviously fake breasts! Why should anyone care, though, one way or another? Why are people totally obsessed with others' weight and appearance? Worry about your own if you wish, but leave others alone. Women need to have more respect for themselves. If they want to worry about something, it should be a REAL problems such as crime.”
“I certainly agree about the evils of unbridled, greedy capitalism. However, the pope can help by having all the RC property around the world properly taxed. There would be more money in the coffers for programs for the sick, elderly, and poor.”
