“LOL. Shows the depth of the problem for the republican party, a party that once pushed abolition of slavery, Lincoln as president. The GOP needs the women vote to survive, that is their biggest problem. They can't have the social conservatives and the majority of women they need to choose.”

“I wanna say they made that choice years ago. Decades even.”
“I'm glad to see this story on this site, other sites have been reporting this for some time now, also foreign news media. It's true, the White House is lying again saying it's not true, fortunately other nations are not buying into it.”
“Heaven forbid we should expect anything of anybody. As we work our way towards a world much like the one depicted in "Idiocracy" with ever lower expectations so no one is disappointed by a bad grade or god forbid, flunking.”

“You seem to have missed the point of his example. He expects his students to learn the material. If they have not learned the material they will not benefit from getting the test back in the described manner.
His point is about accurately measuring what the student has learned. Your comment makes no sense in response to what he actually describes.”

“His point is that we should be evaluating people on relevant criteria, not inane ones.”

“Lindytindy - What are we trying to do when we give an exam over a particular subject? Are we trying to assess the student's level of knowledge of that subject, or are we trying to assess the student's ability to read and comprehend under pressure?
Why should I fail a student in a college course because of careless reading or anxiety?
If I tell a student that she's on the wrong track, and she can go back and pass the test, what is wrong with that? She clearly knows the material.
A non-trivial number of students do fail my courses, but it's not because I don't give them every opportunity to pass.
Grades aren't just a matter of "disappointment." In today's world, the student has enormous amounts of time and money at stake.
BTW, I should note that schools do make provisions for students with ASHD and other learning disabilities. So it's not like educators aren't trying to distinguish between knowledge of the subjects and difficulties taking tests anyway.”
“I really despise Obama but this redeems him somewhat in my eyes. Preventing war is a good thing, he's not defiling his Nobel Prize if this sticks. Now if he stopped drone bombing he might actually earn it.”

“Limousine liberals will never understand it's about what people can afford. We have this obsession with safety, our cars are loaded with technology that actually gets in the way, absolute nonsense. But profitable for the technology industry. Self-driving cars are next, God help us. People can't be trusted to drive a freaking car now. As we turn into the society depicted in Demolition Man.”

“Dumb conservatives won't read the article. Like you, for example. The article states in several places that the prices are about the same for the cars with and without the safety features.”

“Ah, sparky, they're writing of Mexico. Please explain to me how we have any say in what goes in to the safety standards for other countries.
Limousine liberal, seriously? Dude, I drive a 19 yo GM product and yes, I am liberal too.”

“Safety is a luxury that only the rich can afford? Shouldn't there be basic safety standards for ALL people?”

“Did you READ the article. The cars with safety features cost less in the US than the cars in Mexico without the safety features. That's called greed.”
austinallan on Nov 30, 2013 at 13:16:03
“My take away from this article is that the cars being sold in the US with all the safety features cost less than the same models sold in Latin American without all the safety features. It looks like the corporations are making profits from selling less than safe cars at inflated prices. I'm a liberal and I understand economics. I don't excuse the corruption that has held back Latin American economies. But I also understand how Latin American has been plundered for decades by American corporations.”
“And when the system, of which the web site is only a small part, is running, then people will discover what a scam Obamacare is. 2014, a total disaster for Democrats. What a shame...”

“Problem: ALL independent studies that have analyzed the entire law, have shown the very opposite. AND it's ALREADY saving lives. AND it's has been a hugh success in MA, where the GOTP's 2012 presidential nominee signed it into law years ago (= before he actively defended it on a federal level during the 2009 HCR debate). ”

“How about the church's vast wealth...but of course he's right about capitalism. Lead by example, Pope, and distribute the church's outrageous wealth to the poor, starting with contraception, then providing housing, health care, education and jobs. A tall order. Or use that wealth to topple capitalist governments and usher in a new age of socialism globally. Even better.”

“No, no, no! The church GETS hand outs from the poor. That's why that plate gets passed around.”
“Flying is such a miserable experience anyway to add this is nuts. I can see fights developing day one, as in shut up! People want to sleep on flights, imagine sitting next to some airhead talking loudly into his or her phone, "Hi I'm like on a plane. What's happening dude? Oh yeah like it's so boring." People will discover that plastic knives can be lethal weapons after all.”
“Hispanics (in particular) keep being pushed into a secondary and even tertiary
priority on Immigration by Obama and the Demos and yet the Demos keep expecting those Hispanic votes.
In his first term Obama opted for Obama Care over Immigration. In his second term he went for Gun Control over Immigration.
Hispanic voters should only vote for Hispanic Congresspersons (from any Party) who are totally committed to Hispanic issues First and foremost !
That's the way every other Interest, Racial and Cultural Group has gained power and respect in this Country since day one.”
“Europe is doing quite well. Better than we are. In terms of quality of life, prosperity, although that would depend where in Europe of course. It's a civilized place, so many Americans cannot understand that, being barbarians slightly above a monkey in intellect and judgment. It's the USA that is going to collapse from it's own stupidity. Too much money spent on war, a police state, a useless bloated federal government that does nothing for it's citizens, jobs sold to other countries, industry given to other countries, money printing creating a make pretend 'recovery', foreign aid to Islamic radicals, corporate welfare, boom and bust economy, banker run government. Um let's see, and it's Europe that is about to collapse, I don't think so.”
“Not bad, mostly good ideas. I think we need a constitutional reform movement to create direct democracy, make health care a right not a product, require those seeking public office to pass a test, this test should include sanity, lack of sociopathic tendencies, no millionaires, no lawyers, IQ well above a monkey.”
“Right, the best solution would be to scrap it and go to medicare for all. They already have a system that took decades to build, it works very well, it would cut out the voracious insurance companies, provide coverage for everyone without limits as to what doctors you can see or treatments you can have for the most part, it doesn't cover everything, but it covers more than Obamcare would. Fund Medicare appropriately instead of this piece of junk, and there we go. Pay for it by ending these useless wars for corporations, canning our ten thousand national security agencies, it's ridiculous, and change the Department of War to the Department of Peace. We and the world would thank our government for this kind of transformation.”
“I may not be fixable at all. After thirty years in the insurance technology building business, to me this looks like one of those projects you end up scrapping because basically it can't be done. I specialized in building big systems and what this looks like is one of those bad ideas corporations spend millions on and end up with nada. Fixed by December 1st? Not in this world.”
