Dayna Morales, Waitress And Marine, Denied Tip Because Of Her 'Gay Lifestyle' (UPDATE)

Dayna Morales, Waitress And Marine, Denied Tip Because Of Her 'Gay Lifestyle' (UPDATE)

Commented Nov 18, 2013 at 18:29:57 in Queer Voices

“I agree that they should have asked for another server if they had such a problem with her sexuality. That being said people can be cruel and irrational and if you work with people expect bad behavior to happen. I dont think what this girl is complaining about is newsworthy or exceptional.”

“I am judged and discriminated by my weight everyday by people like you. But do I go complaining about it to everyone who will listen? Why hasn't the masses cried foul for obese servers? If someone chose to not to tip me because they are offended by my girth than so be it. I dont expect everyone to accept my lifestyle and I dont let others opinions affect my day.”

VanTroi on Nov 17, 2013 at 21:40:39

“People like me? I don't base a servers tip on their looks. I haven't read of a server being denied a tip due to being obese, and it being stated on the receipt, that's why it's not news story.....you work for tips? I doubt it.”

“I agree her being a marine has nothing to do with this. The couple chose not to tip her, so what! It happens everyday to servers but they usually dont go whining about it!”

Tara0230 on Nov 17, 2013 at 18:32:31

“For a news story, being a Marine is related. We live in a free country where to choose to be gay (if it's a choice) should not be persecuted religiously. Pointing out that she is a marine points out that she fights to defend these religious freedoms that, once she gets home - and should they be enforced across the board -would render her utterly un-free.”

proudem on Nov 17, 2013 at 12:30:10

“yeah they do...its how they pay their bills. have you never been in the service industry? servers complain all the time about cheap customers and they remember them and they tell other servers...so if you didnt tip and went back to the restaurant and wondered why service was even worse...now you know why.”

meemu on Nov 17, 2013 at 12:09:01

“Lol, I believe she was "whining" as you put it, over the unsolicited remarks left on the receipt--not the fact that she didn't get a tip....way to miss the pertinent part ;)”

franchise2m on Nov 17, 2013 at 11:45:13

“The point is tipping is a socially expected practice...and although there are people who don't tip it is the exception...

It wasn't the lack of tip that was so unusual...it was the self-righteous note left in place of a tip...it was the bigoted rationalization expressed. It was the fact that the customers apparently didn't have a problem with custom of "tipping" but they chose to let the server do the work before they informed her they never intended to tip her no matter what kind of service they received...

The "patron's" actions were cowardly, deceptive, and hypocritical...they apparently didn't mind being served by an LGBT person...but they weren't going to compensate for that "gay" service...or tell the person face to face what they felt.

How about asking to be waited on by a different server or at least telling the server they didn't intend to leave a tip because they assumed she wasn't heterosexual.”

Dreamchaser829 on Nov 17, 2013 at 11:21:30

“They didn't just "choose not to tip her". They deliberately acted on their prejudice.”

VanTroi on Nov 17, 2013 at 10:09:35

“They chose not to tip based on the server's sexuality. Who she loves is not relevant and should not be taken into account when she is tipped. How would you like if someone chose not to tip you based on your weight?”

OhioAtheist1 on Nov 17, 2013 at 09:48:17

“Actually they do go whining about it, and should. This is their livelihood. Hourly wages for servers are less than minimum wage. It's a good thing not everyone is this bigoted.”

cgert88888 on Nov 17, 2013 at 09:24:34

“If that had been all there was to it, I would agree. Leaving the note was a totally classless thing to do. Without the note, there would be no story.”

“Everyday women go kill their children and no one says a word about them. A holocaust is going on with the most innocent who have no voice and cannot fight back yet, its legal and perfectly acceptable to so many. They are forgiven but a man who has found Christ can not? I am not saying to let this man out of prison, no, he is where he should be. But he can find Christs love. Jesus came for the sinners ( murderers and liars and adulterers) so they can repent and spend eternity with him. Only He can judge a mans heart.”

“I personally never question anyone using a handicapped card. How they get it or what they use it for is none of my business. Unfortunately, people ARE going to ask you if they do not recognize your handicap or if it is not obvious. I am sorry I do not wish to insult anyone and I understand how redundant it must be to continually explain your circumstance. People are curious even if it is not their business. They are going to ask...good luck with that.”

“I know I am not the only one who has seen their fair share of abuse of the handicap parking card. If a person is able to jump in their car faster than me, it makes me question why they have one. Sometimes their disability is not apparent. It may be a inconvenience for the author of this article to have to explain this to co workers and friends but perhaps they dont notice the handicap in the first place.”

hp blogger Lia Seth on Mar 16, 2013 at 22:00:38

“I understand where you're coming from, but it shouldn't make a difference whether they "notice" the handicap. I get that it may be confusing when you see someone like me get in or out of the car quickly, but part of my disability means it's painful to walk or stand for long periods of time. Sometimes, that means ambling or moving slowly is more painful than brisk walking and getting it (being on my feet) over with. As llisa pointed out, handicapped people do not owe anyone an explanation, but I'm happy to provide here it in this forum, if only to save myself and people like me the stress of explanation later.”

“You do have fabulous hair! Its a sad world we live in when people judge us because of our weight instead of our character. They dont pay our bills and have nothing to do with what goes on in our life except to make us feel bad about ourselves. To heck with them! And I agree shaming someone had probably never helped anyone loose weight!”

“From what I understand she can be medicated but not cured. The desire to kill never goes away. Please show me the empirical evidence to prove otherwise. Can you cite me a reference? I am quite interested in learning facts about the minds of sociopaths and those who take pleasure in killing animals and humans. Where was my reference to metaphysical force except what obviously exists in her own mind? Maybe you would like her to be your neighbor. Then let me know if she is evil or crazy! I still believe there is a great risk letting her roam around free to kill again. My apologies if you do not agree.”

Filthy on Jan 8, 2013 at 17:54:16

“You're correct, her desire to kill animals may never go away. However that in and of itself doesn't warrant a life sentence. It should, but it doesn't. She hasn't actually killed any people yet, and for some reason people count more than dogs. Although I personally think killing your own dog is probably the most depraved thing a person can do. Thinking about killing people isn't a crime until you do it. And we don't arrest people for thinking about things.”

“Because anyone who claim from some metaphysical necessity argues that there can be no help. I do not believe in "evil" either. I believe in crazy, but violently crazy NEEDS to be taken care of and interred until fixed or until we develop techniques to fix them.
Your opinions are first and foremost anti-science by discounting any possibility of figuring this out and fixing it by referencing some metaphysical force, and second they are non-empathic as they are based on the idea that there are some people are hopeless and so there is no point trying to help them (even though you are wrong and they can be helped whether now or in the future)”

“This woman is extremely disturbed. I do not believe people with this level of psychosis can be helped. Its something that has to do with a darkness in her soul she has no control of. I dont not understand why she is allowed outside a state run mental facility. She should be under lock and key at all times. All the conditions of her release will not help her next victim. She is very intelligent as are most psychopaths. Its just a matter of time before she kills again”

Tsadik on Jan 8, 2013 at 11:30:40
