“you have a point about the ones who can't be released with a reasonable prospect of surviving, but that only applies to the ones there now. No new animals could be recruited by your logic, which I think is correct.”

“No sir, a tiger requires meat to survive. We do not. We also understand the consequences of our actions on others. Tigers very much less if at all. The comparison of humans to tigers on the matter of meat consumption is grossly flawed. The other problem with this comparison, is it implies that saying "well he did it too" makes it ok, and furthermore, the "he" is a cat. If you argue that we should consider cats as moral compasses I don't even know what to say to you about that.”

“Care to point out an error?”

Mark Cogswell on Aug 1, 2013 at 07:44:49

“Livestock production cannot be said to be destroying the earth as a blanket statement. It is not a fact. Industrial land use is destroying the earth. This includes industrial farming as one of the biggest culprits but that means ALL industrial farming. Large scale mono-cropping, including crops of legumes for vegetarian diets, is an incredibly destructive practice. The biggest problem with industrial meat production is that it treats the cattle and their feed as two unrelated mono-crops. In contrast, small scale family farms can enhance the environment when they are run as a complete ecosystem. Animals are a natural part of any eco-system and removing them from the land is a violent act. Left to their own devices, animals reproduce at a rate that assumes predation. If you have an ethical problem with being the predator yourself, you'd better be prepared to foster the presence of large predators on your land.”

“He calls it the ultimate irony that fetuses that there are no laws to protect the biggest victims of bullying. I call it an utlimate travesty that people without even a rudimentary cogent understanding of ethics can have such public influence.”
