“The NDP are willing to take direct action to limit carbon emissions and fight climate change. According to your twisted logic that makes them “as bad” as the flat earther CPC-LPC. Errr… what?”

Med Prof on Aug 8, 2014 at 23:56:48

“I'm saying that those are poor policy choices for a progressive party and show that they are pandering to populism rather than making evidence-based policy choices. I'm saying that these poor policy choices are one of the things that keep me from being able to support the NDP beyond voting ABC. In the case of GHGs, this is unnecessarily costly solely to give the ILLUSION that most of costs are covered by industry. Instead, the direct cost to individuals is higher than it needs to be in order to achieve the same reduction in CO2 emissions that can be achieved at lower cost with a direct carbon tax. The direct carbon tax is avoided only because people are more likely to be resistant to a direct carbon tax. The NDP are being dishonest and wasteful in promoting cap and trade.”

“Trudeau decided that the greatest issue facing Canadians is pot. It was Justin’s decision to make it his signature issue and he will face criticism for it.

Mulcair and the NDP, while supporting the legalization of pot of decades, have decided that other issues are more pressing for the average Canadian: saving Canada Post, regulating pollution, fighting corruption, children in poverty, improving infrastructure, etc.

You have to question Trudeau’s gambit. Even if one were to vote on the pot issue alone, why would anyone trust his corrupt team of entitled opportunists and proven liers?

The corporate media might be trying to spin things Trudeau’s way, but the average Canadian isn’t being fooled.”

Med Prof on Aug 3, 2014 at 21:03:39

“This isn't actually true. The NDP support decriminalization, which is the worst of both worlds and will continue to promote youth access through prohibition of legal sales. That's a dumb position. They are also dumb on the environment (they favour cap and trade because it hides the costs and leaves the illusion that the costs are being picked up by business. In fact, cap and trade is more costly to individuals than a direct carbon tax. Finally, they also come up with dumb populist ideas like energy rebates for seniors (last election campaign). The NDP would likely be my choice if not for these ridiculous populist policies that give the illusion of solving real problems but don't. In terms of populist policy , they are as bad as the CPC. The only difference is the target audience. It is poor and wasteful policy on the part of both parties.”

“I respect different views and opinions, but not ignorance. Saying that the earth is flat or the sun revolves around the moon is ignorance.

Harper is promoting the unscientific idea that climate change does not exist. This sort of ignorance isn’t respected by people who care about the future and respect science. A lot of people in Quebec happen to fit that description.

Rather than deal with concerns about the issues related to pollution, and increasing social inequality Harper would rather name call people “separatist” or “socialist.”

Of course before he gave up on Quebec votes, he tried to buy seats there by promoting a HoC bill recognizing Quebec as a nation and permiting them membership in Unesco.

Harper gives a lot of people in Quebec the idea that anglo-Canadians are anti-science right-wing extremists.

He’s the most dangerous and radical PM we’ve ever had and could very well destroy the country.

That’s your history lesson for day. You can educate yourself from here.”

“The amount of damage Harper has done to national unity is really incalcuable. Continuing the Liberals war on the environment doesn’t play well with people who care about their children’s future. Neither does ignoring the issues and name calling “socialist and separatist.” Harper will never recapture significant seats in Quebec - he knew that when he implemented his scorched earth policy. Now he has to appear to care for Ontario suburbanites with short term memory issues.”

We don't know what the NDP record would be, because they haven't governed.
