Air Canada, Porter Only 4-Star North American Airlines In SkyTrax Ranking

Air Canada, Porter Only 4-Star North American Airlines In SkyTrax Ranking

Commented Jan 25, 2013 at 17:03:46 in Canada Business

“I'll take WestJet over Air Canada any day. The only major difference I've found between them is in their customer service, something WestJet clearly prioritizes while Air Canada just as clearly doesn't.”

chayla on Jun 19, 2013 at 15:22:33

“I agree! There's a reason why Air Canada is in and out of bankruptcy protection all the time. If it wasn’t for bailout money from the Federal government, there wouldn’t even be an Air Canada right now. The employees are so protected by their union that they have forgotten how (or just don’t care) to provide good customer service, while other airlines including Delta and WestJet excel in providing top notch customer service. Those people who keep saying that Air Canada is #1 or that Air Canada is awesome have obviously never flown on another carrier in their lives, or maybe they've been on worse airlines (like Spirit) and that would make Air Canada look good in their eyes. AC flight attendants are rude and arrogant compared to Delta's. Air Canada ticket agents don't give two sh*ts about you when you arrive at their desk to ask a question and that's one of the reasons I avoid flying AC whenever I can.”

missangellcain on Jan 25, 2013 at 18:24:19

“I completely agree!!! I took Air Canada after years of flying WestJet this past Christmas and I it reminded me why I fly WestJet! Air Canada had terrible customer service (rude and uninformed flight attendants, no gate #'s on my tickets, etc. etc.), airplane mechanical problems on every flight and way too many stop-overs on the way with flight changes way too close together! I think the 3 and 4 star rankings should be the other way around for these two!”

“Taxes and delivery costs are irrelevant to the point I was making. Tax rates are determined by governments, not booksellers, and there are no delivery costs for e-books.”

rob347 on Dec 19, 2012 at 18:55:53

“deliveryt is cheaper from .co.uk than from .com, and .com was holding back an import surcharge, usually higher than the shipping charge. A dvd from .co.uk might be $5 cdn to ship- from US $8 cdn plus the import surcharge.... ex/ ballykissangel complete coll 168.99 free shipping, from .ca
94.99 +shipping+import surcharge from .com (If they'll ship to canada didn't check)
21.75 UK pounds from .co.uk (Plus shipping, but around 3-4 pounds)”

“ah. i guess they got it wrong at biz school then. we always talked about consumer price as the final cost, all issues rolled in. as for narrowing it to e-books, i read ebooks as being the example among myriad same - there was me imagining the issue went well beyond ebooks and you were addressing the overall issue of canadians overpaying for goods. i stand corrected. ebooks it is. canadians overpay for ebooks. i guess this means kindle owners etc are partic stupid. i must not date a kindle user, i must not date a kindle user...”

“I wasn't comparing hardcover prices. Like the author of the very article we are commenting on, I was talking about e-book prices, and specifically Kindle book prices. I did use the NYT hardcover bestsellers list to find the titles of some current books, but I was comparing the kindle editions' prices.”

rob347 on Dec 19, 2012 at 18:48:06

“frankly I'm guessing that because they're bestsellers, .ca may be discounting them. As I said higher up, I have been comparing .com, .ca and .co.uk for a couple of weeks, and am finding consistently higher prices (2 X's) on .ca, and consistently lower even with shipping, on .co.uk. Even though the suppliers may be the same US company. Also, often the .com company can't ship to canada (at which time I say, too bad, I won';t buy it at all.)”

“The claim made by this article didn't match my experience. So I did a little check. The prices listed here are accurate as of the morning of December 19, 2012.

First, the top 5 bestsellers (NY Times, hardcover), for the Kindle (with the amazon.com vs. amazon.ca prices):

Threat Vector by Tom Clancy and Mark Greaney
19.03 .com 15.99 .ca

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
16.36 .com 13.99 .ca

The Racketeer by John Grisham
16.36 .com 13.99 .ca

Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich
16.36 .com 13.99 .ca

The Forgotten by David Baldacci
15.51 .com 14.99 .ca

The one book specifically mentioned in the article:

Life of Pi by Yann Martel
16.36 .com (not 4.99!) 13.99 .ca

A few other Canadians books:

The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
16.36 .com 13.99 .ca

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
11.69 .com 10.79 .ca

Lives of Girls and Women by Alice Munro

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
13.09 .com 10.99 .ca

Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard
13.90 .com 11.99 .ca

(I had about eight more, but HuffPo says my comment is too long)”

Fbone on Dec 19, 2012 at 23:36:25

“I checked a few and I'm showing different Kindle prices than you. Did you clear your cookies and cache and use a VPN?
You have to trick Amazon.com that you are accessing their website from the US. The first four books you list are $12.99 for Americans with the fifth being $11.04.”

cornpop on Dec 19, 2012 at 14:20:19

Obama's not a great president, but he's infinitely better than Romney would be.

Anti-American sentiment among foreigners during the Bush II years was very high--I lived in three different countries on three different continents during his presidency, and I experienced this first-hand. (I am Canadian, but was frequently mistaken for being an American.)

Romney has done nothing to differentiate himself from Bush II. That's why hardly anyone outside the U.S. wants to seem him win tomorrow.”
