“Thank you for the new format HP. I didn't realize how much time I was spending contributing to the conversation in your easy to use, friendly, easily accessible and completely addictive old format. I had been skipping threads with the new format for months now, finding refuge and getting my fix from threads still on the old format. When you completely transferred to the new format two days ago, I must admit that the withdrawal symptoms were pretty rough. But guess what? Now my usage has plummeted. Now, I just go in, read the articles and don't even bother to scroll down to the comments. You've helped me to cut down my time on HP by 90%. Can you help me with my cigarette addiction too? Betty Ford has nothing on you guys. Thanks again.
Having to navigate to see a conversation actually stifles that conversation. If creating a format that is a conversastionkiller was your goal, then congratulations.
With this change, we can now add to the list of great moments in media history:
SciFi becomes SyFy and shows movies like "Sharknado"
The Learning Channel becomes TLC and adopts "Honey Boo Boo"
The History Channel becomes H2 and runs "Ancient Aliens" marathons.
The Huffington Post becomes HP and adopts the "carousel format"”
“I used to travel to the South on a regular basis for almost a decade and in every single trip, without exception, I saw or experienced something that made me wish for a blue coat and a flame thrower.”
“Oh man, the religious fundamentalists are going to flip out when they hear that science has found snakes have had a greater hand in our evolutionary development that their imaginary deity. They are going to use this as "proof" that science is of and by thedevil.”
“When I point out that a dump like Cuba has a better child mortality rate than we do and this should be a source of national embarrassment, a progressive will say "dang, we need to do better" whereas a bagger will say "well then move to Cuba, the USA is #1." How can we hope to progress in any way with the baggers holding us back? No state can secede, but I'm sure we can kick some out. Let's start with the South and deport every bagger in the rest of the nation into their new "libertarian" homeland, where they can be free to implement their vision: a theocratic, f ascits, confederate, science-denying, polluted, unregulated, feudal, robber baron dystopia. Let's see how far they get with a sickly, uneducated and religious fundamentalist population, especially without blue state subsidies.”

“Can you imagine a government not being held hostage by the Baggers we are DIRECTLY subsidizing to do it? Absolutely outrageous. Either throw them out or tie their votes in Congress to the solvency of the individual states.
I used to believe all Americans should benefit from the federal government, regardless of in which state they resided. That was previously the only way someone might have a more level playing field in areas like education. Well, the GOP response to Sandy sure cured that Candide-like view, so screw that. Pay-as-you-go for influence on the entire country, or go find your own.”
“Like I said, what is it about "before and after" that you do not understand. The pivotal moment was the CRA of 1964. Before that the GOP was the liberal party with its base of support in the north. The Democrats were the conservative party with the base in the south. When the CRA was passed, the Dixiecrats got upset and left the party. The GOP changed its platform to woo them and the Dixiecrats moved to the GOP. The south stopped being blue and turned red. This does not mean the southerners changed their conservative ideology, it means they changed parties to the GOP which had changed their platform from liberal to conservative. This is basic high school US history. Did you not learn this when you were home schooled?”
“That was the Republican party, when the South was still blue and before the GOP implemented the Southern Strategy. By the late '60's, the old Dixiecrats had moved to the Republican party and the northern liberals who used to be Republicans, moved to the Democrats. What about before and after is it that you do not understand?”
“While some legislators stayed with the party, the electorate that supports the party, left it because they were upset over the passage of the Civil Rights Act. The GOP then changed its platform and instituted the Southern Strategy to woo these disaffected Dixiecrats. Again let me repeat .... THIS IS WHY THE SOUTH TURNED RED WHEN IT USED TO BE BLUE. How did you think that happened? This is basic US history. Did you not learn this when you were home schooled?”
“The Dixiecrats left the Democrats and moved to the Republican Party in the late '60's. This is why the South is now red when it used to be blue for a 150 years before that. This is also the reason the GOP is no longer the party of Lincoln. They are in fact the party of Davis.”

“That's factually inaccurate. Other than Strom Thurmond, the Dixiecrats remained Democrats until the day they died.”
“In Germany, no chemical can be brought to market until the manufacturer proves that it is not harmful to people or the environment. In the US, they can put any chemical into any product and if there is harm, you have to take it to the courts and prove that that particular chemical was the cause of the problem, a burden that is almost always impossible to meet.”

“Not just Germany, the REACH regulation applies throughout the European Union! :)”
“You misunderstood. I meant that science does not make up explanations or claim that some magical, imaginary being is responsible for anything. But lets focus on one thing. How did you determine that every other religion is false? Did you study these religions and found something about them that proved to you they were false? Did you apply the same reasoning to your own religion? How did you determine that your god, out of the over 3000 gods that humans have believed in is the real one? My point is that you are mostly an atheist because you deny 2999 gods. I just believe in one less than you do.”
