“Actually anyone who has even taken a first year economic's course should know that trickle down is faulty as it only works in a closed system, one where the States doesn't interact economically with the rest of the world.”

“So many people in my family, and myself included, have benefitted from Canada's healthcare system. I've had three aunts with cancer and all received treatment immediately. I mean surgeries booked within a week, chemo sessions within two weeks.
All have survived, all without once having to worry about the financial strain on their family. Having a wife with cancer is hard enough without having to worry about wether you'll have a house at the end of it too.
I don't understand the US system and why some fight so hard to keep it. There are millions of uninsured children in the states. How is it fair for a child to not have access to the best healthcare because of something they have no control over?”

“I'll never understand the US mentality that says it's perfectly okay to spend almost 15% of your gross (not net, gross) salary on "insurance" that doesnt even cover everything.
But then Americans have never been the sharpest crayons in the box when it comes to that kind of thing.”

“I hope we see reform on prostitution sooner rather than later. There is a reason why it's called the world's oldest profession. It has existed since we've had trade and will endure long after us; the least we can do is make it safer for sex workers.”

“As a man in his 40s, I'm shocked that To Kill A Mockingbird is recommended for readers in your 20s. We studied that on in the 9th grade. If you haven't read it by your 20s, your school (or parents) let you down.”
“Sanders, 41, cheats on his wife and two kids, apologises and it isn't news worthy.
A 22 year old girl cheats on her boyfriend, apologises, the internet condemns her. Not saying what she did was right but there were two people in this tango and I only see one person here being crucified.”

“The Canadian banks have been keeping their interest rates artificially low for a couple years now. But they told us they were going to be doing it. So we knew that loans would have low interest rates (yay) but we wouldn't see much back from the interest on our savings accounts (boo).
Regulation has its upsides, I think this would be one of them. They did the same things, but at least they told us about it first.”

“Your Banks in Canda also had some strong "liquidity" requirements. They weren't allowed to hedge their bets 44 to 1 and more as American bankers were. Lehman folded on their under-capitalization of their system. LIBOR let bankers fudge on the rates and set up a system that only protected their interests and none for the depositers to the institution. I love you Canuks...you don't go off a cliff to prove your point. Seriously, Canada is very moderate in all their dealings...try to keep the extremists from getting a hold on what you have or you will make "American History".”
“Cable's going the way of the dinosaur and they don't seem to realise it.
I spend half of what I do on cable as I do on my internet bill and I get all the same things. I don't understand why I should subscribe to all those channels when I could find what I wanted to watch, when I wanted to watch it on my computer.”

“Maybe not though. A gun is a fast killer. One pull of a trigger, one second.
It can take over 20 stab wounds to kill someone. 10 hits to the head. They are a lot more personal and a lot more violent. I think a robber would be far less likely to kill during a heist if he knew it would take minutes to kill instead of a second.”
“First and foremost, I don't think that slavery and abortion are comparable. Slavery involved taking an entire race of people who could not only think and feel but could also express it, and telling them that they were no more than chattle because of their skin tone. American society still hasnt recovered from the negative repurcussions of slavery.
Comparing the two does great disservice to both the black rights movement and to the pro-choice/life movements. I find it callous.
Secondly, scientifically, I'm not sure we can ever know when a fetus actually can think and feel. That's one of the reasons I won't have one. But banning abortion and limiting access is actually a danger to women who plan on seeking out this procedure regardless of your moral qualms. Women died, painfully and horrifically, to get abortions before it was legalised.
I don't think when a fetus is human enough to deserve to be born is the real issue. It can't be, because we automatically surplant women's rights as lesser than that of others the second that becomes the argument.”

“"... we automatically surplant women's rights as lesser than that of others the second that becomes the argument."
That's the only way the anti-abortion argument is comparable to slavery. They believe women should be slaves to both men and fertilized eggs, rather than have control over their own bodies and their own labor. Saying this one "person" has the right to control this other person's body makes the second person a slave, straight up.”
“I'm pro-choice but personally not pro-abortion. That's okay, I just won't have one. If you disagree with abortion so much, don't have one either; but don't legislate against it and make it harder to access. It's counterproductive. Also, don't shame women at the gates of these clinics.
The best thing to do is in regards to prevention. Better sexual education leads to less pregnancies. Making birth control more accessible (there is a reason why health care providers actually don't tend to have fiscal arguements against covering birth control) does that too.
Also fun fact, the legalisation of abortion actually caused a reduction in the crime rate in America nearly two decades later.”

“True! Education is the real key here. And we should not judge women getting abortion. It is their choice. We are all entitled to have our own choice. Let us just respect each other's decision regarding this issue.
Maezeppa on Jul 15, 2012 at 12:02:43
“Sadly, most who oppose abortion also oppose making contraception and birth control or even education about it available. Knowledge leads, you see, to sinning and fornication in their minds.
Legalized abortion did precede a drop in the crime rate years later, at about the time unwanted or abandoned kids would have been reaching young adulthood and committing crimes.”

“Thats what many of the pro slavery folks told the abolitionist. The real issue is scientifically speaking at what stage between conception and birth someone reaches the threshold of being a human being and thus possessing basic human rights.”
