“"The thigh pinch? Not so much. The attacker might think you're coming on to him."

Exactly why it, and the ear shouts are effective.”

“Hmm, okay, I get it. What seems like a nice pinch suddenly turns painful and catches them off-guard. I'd still go with the elbow! :)”

“@roger37 @maverick9808

So, you teach your wife and daughter to carry a key in their fist, but you're not afraid? You don't go to places where you might be vulnerable, but you're not afraid? You don't walk by buildings at night, but you're not afraid?

Oh, no! These things are 'not stupid.; These things are 'intelligent.'

Wonderful world of intellectualizations there.

Yes, they are 'not stupid', and 'intelligent' responses to fear.

And why are these places, places to be avoided? That whole ball of wax is my 'sad indictment of a lot of things'; that there are places to fear, because society allows there to be places to fear, and you are afraid of them and intellectualize them away.

And you both think it's all about you.”

“You don't have to live in La-la land to recognize that fear is a sad state to live in.”

“Its not fear it is intelligence, the same reason you don't walk by buildings in the city especially at night you always walk near the road.”

roger37 on Jul 10, 2012 at 12:40:51

“Neither I or my family lives in fear. We just don't do stupid things like walk in places where we're vulnerable.”

“First, mobile posting here sucks.

Second, its a sad indictment of a lot of things that you believe that.

Third, yes the video does indirectly deal with that issue. The first rule of self-defence is to be aware of your surroundings.”

roger37 on Jul 9, 2012 at 22:25:50

“A "a sad indictment of a lot of things..."? What lala land do you live in? I live in the middle of a big city, always have lived in cities, and that's common knowledge. And it's true of the 'burbs, too.”

“Put down your uber cool hipster irony. Your second paragraph is almost all nonsense.

These techniques are effective. She is trained, and so is her attacker. All her techniques are buffered, not delivered lethally for the sake of her not actually damaging her partner, who is also overacting, and over reacting for the sake of the simulation.

All said, it takes a while to learn the subtler lessons in the video, which are not about hitting or kicking, but, awareness and cool headed-ness. In three months you can learn effective nut kicking and punching, but if your gonna freeze, or not deliver with force, effectiveness and cool headed precision then it's all useless fakery.

They were recorded outside because that's where the sunshine for lighting, and open space was. Second, if delivered effectively, these techniques do incapacitate the opponent. And you overlook that the techniques aren't intended to kill, but to allow the victim to escape.

These attacks cause enough pain to incapacitate the attacker. When delivered properly by trained persons, they work. It doesn't take much training, actually, but a fierce resolve moreso. The video covers exactly those things.”

“One thing it does not say is NOT to be walking unaccompanied in these kinds of situations. If you live in a city, you learn pretty quickly to stay in lighted areas with lots of people around.”
