“i have been living in small town ontario for 8 years, having moved here from a very hot real estate market in downtown toronto.
it was, and still is amazing to me how long properties take to sell (years) here and how much the sellers have to reduce their asking prices...a dramatic difference from my experience of the market in toronto. eight years ago, i had a bidding war on my property in toronto.
here, in small town ontario, people can't give the real estate away.
i wonder if mpac (the real estate assessment corp. upon which my property taxes are based) has heard the news: they keep increasing the value of my property. maybe the city council here is buying favours.”

“It's because nobody wants to live in small town Ontario. No demand.”

“It's the same here in rural BC, Housing prices are still strong in Vancouver and some of the large cities but in small town BC the housing market is very sluggish. House prices have dropped as much as 30% in some interior towns, your lucky to get the tax-accessed value when you sell (if you can find a buyer).”

“If your house is not worth what MPAC says it is than you can appeal. In my area close to Toronto the assessments are almost always less than market value. Like it will say 400K on the assessment but market value is 650K and nobody would sell for 400K.”

“since it is patently clear we are no longer living in a democracy, thanks to the harper agenda, i, as a environmentalist, have absolutely no problem with funding our green agenda from wherever the money comes from. this is just another attempt by the tories to limit dissent.”

“Tories have no problem with fuelling "foreign money" into insurgencies in Syria, Libya etc.....i.e. to insurgencies under the control of Big Oil (not the real popular uprising, which Tories don't care about and don't want one at home, either).”
“What is it that the assault rifle advocates are so paranoid and afraid of? Armed insurgence in the US? Lawlessness?
Paranoia and fear run the NRA. What a terrible way to live.
Kudos to anyone, anywhere in the US who can tackle THIS insanity!”

“LOL. The left is all about fear and paranoia these days, while blaming the other side of the same. Just look at the posts on these pages, and Obama's remarks yesterday about the debt ceiling & how the gov't would no longer be able to pay law enforcement, air traffic controllers, USDA food inspectors and other essential services. Fear mongering at its worst.”

“Inre Balfour Declaration:
"The Declaration accepted the growing political and diplomatic independence of the Dominions, in the years after World War I. It also recommended that the governors-general, the representatives of the King who acted for the Crown as de facto head of state in each dominion, should no longer also serve automatically as the representative of the British government in diplomatic relations between the countries. In following years, High Commissioners were gradually appointed, whose duties were soon recognised to be virtually identical to those of an ambassador. The first such British High Commissioner was appointed to Ottawa in 1928."
so the gg should not *automatically serve* as the rep. of the british gov't in diplomatic reations between countries. but the declaration does not speak specifically to those nations within nations who have negotiated treaties with britain.
the gg should have made an attempt to meet.”

“i guess i just don't understand the law: a crime has been committed, so why can't harper (and his party?) be impeached?”
Liz Wilson 2 on May 5, 2012 at 21:06:26
“can't impeach him because we are Canadians and that is an action reserved for American presidents.... so, despite all the help he has from the big money men like the Koch brothers and the republican election machine.... we still have to treat him like a Canadian”
