“You know, professional sports has always been a business. That much I think is understood. The owners deserve a profit and the players are in a special situation as they are both the employees and the product. Plus they often have a very limited career lifespan.
All forms of entertainment have huge profit potential which is fine but what the huge influx of money in sports today. But the enormous cash flow in professonal sports today (and even college) has corrupted sports terribly. Not just hockey. In American baseball, when all is said and done it costs at least $200 for a family of 4 to go to the game! The teams don't care because most of the seats are sold as season seats to corporations.
What is happening to our hockey is symptomatic of it. We really need to find a way to bring Sport back into a world of sports. I wish I was smart enough to find a good answer to the problem.”
