'A N*gger in Net': Racism at the World Juniors

Commented Jan 1, 2013 at 13:44:18 in Canada

“It's really disrturbing to see so many racial slurs in the year 2013. It was a mere 150 years ago that Abraham Lincoln fought so very hard against so many to abolish slavery FOREVER. I thought the world had become a better place in so many ways since then but it guess it is almost impossible to complete eradicate ignorance and intolerance.

Thank you to the Subban family for having immigrated to Canada and given us 2 such fine hockey players who have made Canada proud.”

“Thanks for your comment, luskey49. Just to clarify that Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in the USA only (1863). The practice continued in other countries, including Brazil, the last nation in the Western world to abolish slavery on May 13 1888.”

“Slavery is alive and well in this world from China's forced labour manufacturing plants to child sex slaves in Thailand and Cambodia to child cocoa workers in Ivory Coast to sex slaves in the United states and probably Canada. A good job by Lincoln, but he didn't solve the problem. Human trafficking is one of the world's largest industries.”

“Umm ... Lincoln might have fought against slavery (debatable), but he didn't fight against racism.”
