“Land's End was a good fit when Sears was trying to go upscale back in the day. Now Sears and Kmart are so inextricably intertwined that no one would ever consider either one upscale. Once Sears took over Land's End the quality disappeared form what was a very fine brand. Never forget that Sears sought to buy out Kmart and then the tail wagged the dog and Kmart bought out Sears. They might as well shutter the Kmart chain as the last few times I've been in the one closest to me it was not worth going in. Of the three things I went in for they didn't have even one.”

“I completely agree that the TV has no place in the bedroom. While my space may be a bit "full" for some it is home to a few of my collections as well as a reading area in the large Victorian bay window. Ambient lighting via candles is always handy as is water and a small assortment of candy. My guest room has everything a guest might need, towels, water, robes, current reading materials, candy, extra blankets as well as anything I know a specific guest enjoys. I place everything out where there is no doubt that it is for their use and to be enjoyed. Most of all bedroom spaces are private and sanctuary like for their inhabitants.”

“I was a subscriber from year one and also let the subscription lapse. It is not the warm read it was for many, many years. I know that country is changing but it still needs to have country at it's core. Now would be an ideal opportunity for them to return to their country roots and feature affordable antiques and country items as well as the notable designers with upscale (read expensive) goods. I live in a rural 1786 brick farmhouse where country furnishings abound. In my off times it's life in a 670 square foot lake house where the country influence is more subtle but present. I miss Country Home magazine as well as the earlier incarnations of Country Living.”

“The description of registered mail handling is correct and if the mailer was honest about the contents she would have been advised about the correct mailing process. More than that they were probably not honest about the contents and mailed it "media mail" to get the least expensive rate which is not insured. We in the Post Office handle human cremated remains quite often and I have to say that in every instance that I have ever witnessed they have been treated with great respect. I would suggest that that treatment stems from the fact that we realize that there is a relationship between the receiving family and the remains. One of the most difficult deliveries I have ever made was the personal property of a soldier who was killed in action to his young widow. I could not contain my tears and I hugged her and thanked her for her husband's service and consoled her for her loss until her father came over to be with her. I have found two of my customers who passed away alone in the course of my route as well. I was allowed to stay in each instance until those persons were well cared for. Like any other industry the Postal Service has it's share of jerks but there is a huge percentage of employees who have developed a great concern for their customers.”

“Life comes to a point for men as well when the lovely young ladies on the other side of the counter and even the young men at the gas pumps refer to you as "Sir" and it's a harsh reality. I've been receiving the Sr. discount at the movies for years since my hair turned gray and the "kids" behind the glass assume I'm over 65. Like all thing in life you take the good with the bad.”

“Good point. I'm still pleased that it is being brought to the attention of the many that there are still so very many left devastated by the storm. Noting inspires people like progress and even one home on one block may inspire action. Most of the issues seem to be red tape and regulations. Many are taking the insurance money and leaving if they can collect.”

“I've subscribed to Country Living since the beginning and would continue to except for their subscription renewal policies. With that said I love the fact that rather than create another unaffordable impractical show house they got together with their advertisers and did some good and called attention to the fact that many still are displaced by the recent storms in various areas of the country. Many are still suffering from Katrina and Sandy was terrible in the North East. It's a lovely home and I'm very pleased that another home and it's residents are reunited.”

“I think that when you leave for work it cleans it's self and does your laundry as well as dishes. Judging by the size of the panels it's completely off the grid. The single thing I found most interesting is that it was designed for a furniture company. It seems to me from the sketches that the furniture is completely built in making it sort of anti-furniture.”

“This in no way speaks of a "restoration" to me. To each their own but I've never been tempted to order from their catalog and I don't think I could enjoy being a guest in their home. I could never relax there. The home appears to be clad in vinyl siding and windows giving it the appearance of a modern tract house. Looking very deeply into the interior one can discern some elements of age. Sadly it is like an older woman that wears her hair in the style of her youth and has lost all perspective in her makeup. If they love it and it nurtures them good for them. I does not speak to me at all.”

“A trip to the emergency room following an auto accident and the bill was just under $14,000.00, X-rays, five stitches, an IV, a cardiac test, and some gauze pads. By the time it was beat down by the insurance company it was $1200.00.
A friend has no insurance, she needed treatment for a bad back, the bill was in the hundreds of dollars, a friend with insurance the bill was over $3000.00 for the same exact tests.
There is no money in health care but healthcare is buying, building and growing exponentially faster than any other industry in my area, the greater Delaware Valley. Help me understand it. Non profit hospitals acquire office spaces in communities and they come off the tax roles. Physician practices go into the office space and we, the taxpayers pay their taxes and we pay to visit their practices.
Communities raise millions of dollars to build community hospitals and then the boards sell them off to giant corporations. Someone help me follow the money.”

“I suspect it is a men's club rather than a private home. However those who suspect it could be the residence of a gay couple could be on track as well. I'm not sure why the punch bowl is such an odd notion. I believe that at one time most homes had one, wealthy homes had cut glass, less well off had pressed glass and so on. Read articles about entertaining on a budget these days and it is often suggested to make a single party drink to serve rather than the expense of an open bar. It looks to me as if they were well prepared to entertain with the decks of cards and so on.”
