“Wynne's speech was extremely cynical and dirty - she pulled an Obama. Just like Obama's first speeches repeatedly claimed he'd have a hard time winning because of his colour and name and that many people would reject his ideas because of racism - Wynne essentially said if you don't vote for me, you're a homophobe. So, every time the Tories attack her the Libs and left-wing media will trot out the bigotry cards.
Look at Smitherman - people have actually made themselves believe he lost the mayoral election because he was gay!”

“Did you make the same arguments when Chretien won a majority with only 37% of the vote? Was that victory an affront to democracy?”
sdbest on Jan 25, 2013 at 13:21:34
“I made the same argument then. And, yes Chrétien's hold on power was an affront to democracy. Neither the Chrétien government then nor the Harper government now democratically represented the Canadian people. Such is the price we pay for an anachronistic electoral system.”

“Ditto to McGuinty here in Ontario. He constantly campaigns with our tax dollars (e.g. why is gov't spending millions to advertise a 30% off tuition grant for students who don't need to apply to receive it) but not a peep from the left.”

“The Libs played this game for years but only to their own benefit. They screeched 'a vote for NDP is a vote for the conservatives!' but they never preached the same thing when an NDP candidate had a better chance than their own local Liberal. Any kind of informal alliance will only benefit the Libs and I think the NDP has finally become wise to this.”

“I guess I'm too young to know this. I would hope the NDP would have the upper hand this time, but either way, I'd take one or the other over the current Government...good to know!”
“It's not a contradiction. My point is they are fine and I don't care what they do. And, I'm not a con, I'm a rational centrist which apparently is sooooo far to the right of the radical left it's impossible to see.”

“Hey, I just calls 'em as I sees 'em. If it walks like a duck...”
“Left wing liberals are the racists here. You're clinging to the old "noble savage" motif that believes Natives are inherently weaker than the rest of us, have been completely taken advantage of, have no accountability for their own affairs and can't possibly take care of themselves.”
NTodd on Jan 13, 2013 at 17:26:13
“No, we see natives as equal partners in the founding and maintenance of this country, who don't need people like you telling them how poorly off they are and what they should do about it. Deal.”
“Yeah, hardly. Repeating this bunk doesn't make it true.”

“How Canada developed a nest egg or GNP - I''ll give you one hint..MacDonald + treaty+ 5 million + the Indian Act + Reserves+ sub soil natural resource revenue= LRT & monies held in trust by DIANDHere is some research on Lands/Trust/ Revenue (LRT)"First Nation bands are asking the federal government to explain what happen to more than $10 billion in trust accounts managed by the federal government on behalf of aboriginal people.Indian trust accounts are a little known aspect of federal responsibility and the court actions from across the country, turn the tables on the financial accountability issue.Instead of questioning Aboriginal leadership about federal funding, Ottawa is now being asked to be fiscally responsible and Ottawa's management practices are also being scrutinizedThe lawsuits are based on six court actions since 1996 from across the country. One is for First Nations bands and usually involves a band's revenues from land transactions or oil and royalties. It's a major concern," said Dennis Whitebird, a regional chief with the Assembly of First Nations.”
“The reality is Romney doesn't support a federal requirement that employers provide female staff with health insurance that must include birth control because it violates religious freedom. Should Catholic hospitals be forced to pay for staff to get birth control? These are complext questions and just screaming, oh well Romney is battling a war on women is super fun and easy but doesn't accomplish anything. And, yes there are extremists inside the GOP just as there are inside the Democratic party. Remember half the country doesn't support abortion. ”

“I was raised Catholic (no longer practice) I know about abortion and the stance.
Catholic hospitals are not the church, they are businesses, subjet to the same rules as other businesses. Each Doctor, each hopital can choose it's own policies on abortion.
Health insurance, contaceptives is a whole other matter.
It's time for the Catholic church and others to wake up. Want to reduce abortions? Talk about contraceptives. Stop living in the dark ages. Abortions should be a last resort and not used as a means of birth control. It's time for America to wake up.
We've been sleep walking on this issue and Republican have been held hostage by the religious right.
And Mr. Romney--take a damn stand and stay with it. Talk about pandering---”
“Just because someone wrote an article comparing the Administrations pay doesn't make it true. HP prints lies all the time. Sorry I don't believe everything I read, especially when it comes to politics. ”
