“I hear ya.”

viciousvirago on Nov 30, 2013 at 14:21:22

“My friend recently died. She ran a large Social Services office and told me that 30% of her clients were referred to CPS.

The problem has always been this: girls and women having babies they didn't even want, believing the guy's line of 'I'll take care of the baby' and then promptly leaves. And women who have too many children whom they obviously cannot afford. Like it or not, it is STILL a woman's burden to have children. I say sterilize them after two children if it can be proven that they are not fit mothers. Sound l984ish? Yeah, probably to some, but I'm on the side of the children.”

I love it when you say, "As for the "eternal" victim statement, considering we are still creating victims, it may be a bit difficult for them to stop being victims." Brilliant.”

NYPD Racial Profiling Law Prompts Lawsuit From Patrolmen's Benevolent Association

“Why don't they (PD) stop whining. People are simply making an effort to check their power (checks and balances). If the council passed the law, that would imply there is actually a problem that needed to be addressed.”

rrobinnyc1 on Oct 15, 2013 at 16:08:33

“The NYPD has always run amok. The last good police commissioner we had was Bill Bratton and I give him a lot of credit for turning the city's crime rate around. He was tough, but fair and the African and Latino American communities truly appreciated that. It's not a matter of whether we need Stop and Frisk. We need it to be done accurately, fairly and with an unbiased eye. The current state of affairs is we have a racist police commissioner backed by a equally bigoted mayor who believes all African American boys and men are criminals.”

“xarcturusx. I don't know which President Bush you are addressing. However, if your referring to W then I agree he did make mistakes and was not the brightest bulb on the planet. But, at least he did meet with the opposition, did respect the current President who was not respectful to his predecessor. I stand corrected PBO was respectful when he was in front of the media. Perhaps some would consider that being two faced.”

“If we do not understand the causes we cannot predict, let alone deal with the effects. Understanding does not mean condoning or excusing. It is a preventative measure used by people like forensic psychologists so that we can identify the characteristics of perpetrators and "pull" them out of the mix and get them the help they need. Unfortunately, too few are trained to do the identifying.”

Commented Oct 3, 2013 at 17:48:59 in Impact

“You did not have a point to make.  You were whining about teachers.  That was not a point, but an opinion.   The problem with the education system is fourfold: parents, students, teachers and the administration.  To blame simply one, as is the fashion, is merely shortly-sighted and shows a lack of vision or understanding of the magnitude of the crisis.”

SLM89 on Oct 3, 2013 at 17:57:27

“I suspect there are far more students who disrespect teachers than teachers who disrespect students. There are countless problems with the education system, some of which are exacerbated by people who do not know the extent or nature of the problems but insist on whining anyway.”

SLM89 on Oct 3, 2013 at 16:01:29

“I suspect you are wrong.  You are also proving my point.  So it's the parents/students fault for our failed education system?  If "we" are in the dark about the issues, then how can you consider it whining?  I am very clear with the issues and it's the teachers.”

“I am no English professor but "baker's dozen" is a colloquial phrase, a phrase of convenience that refers to "THINGS", twelve in number (not people).  In jest, one might refer to a brood of twelve kids as a baker's dozen, but that would be in jest.   To refer to twelve murder victims as a baker's dozen is simply...well insensitive.”

Stephen Stafford on Sep 18, 2013 at 19:55:43

“At the least, you now have experienced another, and broader, usage.
I had not been aware that there is a language restriction on terms used to count or number people. I do not think there is.
I hear your point, and see the issue differently.”
