'ISIS Flag' Flies Above Gate To Housing Estate In East London, Guardian Reports

'ISIS Flag' Flies Above Gate To Housing Estate In East London, Guardian Reports

Commented Aug 9, 2014 at 14:46:52 in UK

“Given the recent shocks of British cowtowing to Islamic radicals and its own history of effete antisemitism, this is hardly surprising. I've stopped going to London because I simply couldn't stand the overt anti-Israel reflex on the BBC, almost all the newspapers, even the art galleries. I was at Birmingham when the 1967 war broke out. Every night the BBC reported one or two Arab nations declaring war on Israel. Fortunately, those countries stopped at the announcement so Israel could save itself with that pre-emptive strike. What appalled me was how the British university students openly cheered the Arab war-declarers on, gleeful that Israel would be eliminated. About a year ago a teacher was fired for telling an Arab boy to stop bullying a Jewish boy. Yesterday MP Galloway declared his town "Israeli-free." That's like Israel being charged with genocide when it's Hamas whose charter calls for the elimination of the Jews. Or charging Israel with apartheid when its large Arab population has more civil rights than any Arab nation gives its citizens -- and "moderate" Palestinian Abbas declares not one Jew will live in Palestine. The flag isn't surprising.”

“As Alan Dershowitz has pointed out (posting on my FB a few days ago), Gaza is large enough that Hamas could wage war from outside the civilian communities. They prefer to hide behind their children, women, mosques, schools and hospitals. This has been amply demonstrated, including in a Hamas handbook on strategy (posting on my FB a couple days ago). Anyway, Israel's warnings enable people to flee a targeted building if not the area. Every disadvantage the Gazans have would be remedied if they made peace with Israel.”

Matt Astell on Aug 7, 2014 at 23:20:54

“Your view seems overly simplistic. Of course Hamas fighters hide behind the population of Gaza. They're pretty vastly outgunned by the Israeli military. Those tactics are only effective because the population supports them. Another couple variations of this strategy you may think more highly of are the Free French and the Jewish nationalists from just prior to the creation of Israel. After all, one side's terrorists are the other side's freedom fighters.”

“Israel gave back Sinai to make peace with Egypt and has offered land for peace to the Palestinians, who refuse to accept the existence of a Jewish state. The Arabs started every single Israeli war since 1948, provoking the current one with constant rocket firings at Israeli civilians, violating Israel's borders with dangerous tunnels, and murdering three Israeli teens. How you can call the life-loving and freedom-sharing Israelis the power-addicted greedy terrorists in this situation boggles the mind.”

“But it's Hamas that is pledged to destroy Israel, Hamas that has fired daily barrages of rockets at Israeli civilians and Hamas that violated Israel's borders with aggressive tunnels. All Israel did to provoke Hamas was withdraw from Gaza, leaving them a prosperous greenhouse industry which Gazans immediately deserted.”

“So X discriminates against women, gays, other religions, denies the free press and political dissidence, rejects modern science and an independent judiciary and spends on arms and tunnels instead of improving its citizens' lives. X violates the Geneva convention by refusing to distinguish its soldiers from civilians, deploys children as suicide bombers and uses its own civilians and civilian centres as shields. X has pledged to destroy country Y.
Y provides all those missing freedoms. It has never started a war and only began this present defensive measure six years after the tunnel system trapped soldier Shalit and after over 500 rockets were fired at its schoolyards by June. Arab citizens of Y have more rights than in any other Arab country. Since 1948 Y has been on the constant defensive against its neighbours, yet has astonishing achievements in science, medicine, technology. As it gave up the Sinai to make peace with Egypt, Y has offered similar land for peace to X. But X refuses Y's right to exist in its own identity.
So Y represents all our values and X represents every threat to them. But the Green Party opts for "engaged neutrality" and condemns its officer who spoke up for western civilization. Perhaps if Y weren't Jewish the Green Party might have a clearer vision. I used to think they stood for knowledge, principle, science, but they're obviously enslaved to the oldest prejudice we have. So much for the Greens”

“I think that the Green Party is capable of producing the most credible and useful policy of all parties on this matter. It will be necessary for the party to be willing to engage with the government on setting practical goals, and winning the cooperation of the government will be the biggest problem.”

“Well said, thank you!
I am not Jewish, but I visited Israel few years ago - it is a beautiful country with brave people. Arab citizens of Israel are prospering (when they want to work) with no discrimination at all.
Everything you said is 100% true!”

Ford has given ample proof he cannot be believed or trusted.”

“Don't those brothers know anything? Racism is prejudging and condemning someone because of their race. That has nothing to do with holding someone responsible for his behaviour. It is hardly racist to condemn a mayor for being a drug addict, an uncontrolled drinker, a racist, a bigot, a constant liar, with no respect for the law he is supposed to uphold. Not to mention their total ignorance of "conflict of interest" and their need to represent the city at its best. They don't even know the words they use. Someone who feels "humiliated" by his past deeds and words would hardly have the arrogance to run for mayor, having been exposed as an international joke. Sorry, boys, "The devil made me do that" is a Flip Wilson joke, not a serious excuse for your constant misconduct.”

“MacKay tipped his hand by dismissing users of prostitution as "perverts." He has no understanding or sympathy for those with normal, understandable need for the services of the oldest profession. It has existed so long for a reason: some people need it, having no alternative for sexual connection. Clearly this proposal is based on a narrow religious ideology that ignores the true Canadian values, yet another reminder of Harper's archaic dogmatism.”

Paul Niziol on Jun 11, 2014 at 16:33:45

“Basically the Harper Regime handled this in the same fashion as they always have. They are always right, they have no need of opinions of experts or those in the industry, so there is no need to waste time in consultation. We are guided by a superior morality than the rest of the country. We know what is best for you even if you don't

That is how Harper & Co. think. This is how they have been destroying this country. In this case, this law will make things worse than it was before. More will women will be in danger of being killed or worse. But the Harper Regime just doesn't care because by the time it makes it way through the system back to the Supreme Court...it will be someone else problem.”

Nowhere with Black did Ford state he was recalling his perspective back then, not now. And why did he repeat the disproved allegations Dale had climbed up to invade his property? And why ridicule Dale for running away and asking not be slugged? Ford implied Dale was less manly than him and has let that absurd charge stand. This is another insult, not an apology.”

“Well done, Carol. This kind of probing, unflinching investigation is one of the vital services the CBC provides -- and a major reason The Harper Misgovernment would have it on the chopping block. As for that chap Black, he is disingenuous to offer the truthless Ford such a respectable platform, lob soft questions that include the answers, and then deny responsibility for what he airs. Black shares Ford's sense of wounded innocence and his indignation at being expected to observe the ordinary citizens' rules. Truly, adversity makes strange bedfellows.”
