In North America, the most commonly-produced eggs are from battery-caged hens. These pitiful creatures live their whole lives crammed as many as five or six at a time into tiny wire cages, where they can barely move. This way they can't get any health-promoting exercise.
What could we do in Canada to protect our mountain forests from detrimental land use changes, increase their cultural value and slowly lessen some dependence on agricultural land? Could Scandinavian Mountain Cattle find free-range forest homes in some of Canada's mountains?
Ah, organic foods. Mysterious and pretentious. Some people swear by organic foods to avoid the "hidden dangers" of conventional products, whereas others completely ignore anything organic, equating the term organic with expensive. But what does "organic" even mean, and is eating organic better for you?
Much is being made these days of the need for children to put down the tablets, remotes and other tech devices and get outside and play. Medical experts and media pundits are keying on health issues, such as childhood obesity and diabetes, as the key driver for increased play. And they are correct; but there are other important reasons: future jobs and economic growth.
