This Marijuana Activist Is a Hero to Me, and I Don't Smoke the Stuff

Unlike the "Prince of Pot," I don't use marijuana. I never have, and probably never will, even if it were to become legal for recreational use. Nevertheless, I have been a staunch admirer of Marc's ever since I first met him. While Marc Emery didn't do this single-handedly, there is no question that he is at least partly responsible for the fact that hundreds of thousands of people across North America now have legal access to a medication that helps relieve their pain and epileptic seizures. Margaret Wente said that Marc's no hero, but I disagree.

Stop Pretending Marijuana Prohibition Protects Children

The Tories can't even mention Justin Trudeau and his plan to legalize pot without resorting to a plea to 'think of the children!' They'll tell you pot can fry a developing brain, spoil an academic career or even turn your son or daughter into an addict. But prohibition isn't keeping pot away from teens. It is ruining young lives across the continent. As it so often with misguided legislation, it's the disadvantaged who suffer most.

My Plans After U.S. Prison Release: 'Prince Of Pot'

The most important project for Jodie and I begins on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. That day kicks off our Election 2015 Canada-wide speaking tour, where we will speak at rallies in thirty cities in nine provinces, until Monday Oct. 18, 2015, the day before Canada's federal election. The intent will be to impress upon the Canadian cannabis culture to get out and vote - and vote against the currently-governing prohibitionist Conservative party.

Trudeau on Pot Is a Political Highlight

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau is right that legalizing, and then regulating, marijuana is the right thing to do. It will save money and it will help keep weed away from kids. Prohibition isn't working to keep kids safe from today's supercharged weed. Legalization and regulation will.

Justin Trudeau's Liberal Brand Problems

One of the first orders of business for new political party leaders is the branding of their party. What will their party stand for? What will they do if elected? How will their policies help Canadian families? The Liberals and the media together have been closely watching Justin Trudeau since he became leader. They want to see what Trudeau's brand will be. So far, his biggest alignment has been with illegal activity. Not a great start.

Legalize Pot, But Ban Dr. Pepper?

More and more people seem to be concluding that while marijuana has its real risks, letting grown-ups make their own choices about it is preferable to, and ultimately less damaging than, having the government assume a protective, prohibitory role. And yet... Take many of these same people and start talking to them about transfats or super-size sodas -- about Twinkies and Coca Cola -- and the conversation quickly turns to calls for bans and lawsuits and regulation. At just about the same time Colorado was legalizing pot, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg was busy trying to ban large sugary drinks.
