I have met hundreds of models throughout my time working in the fashion industry but there are specific people that stood out to me over the years. Some I have had the pleasure to meet and work with and others I have admired from a distance. It is hard to thrive in an industry that is so competitive and cut throat.

From February 20 to 26, I volunteered for the fourth season of Toronto Men's Fashion Week (TOM*) and helped out on the model relations team. It was as intense as it was incredible, and the seven days spun before my eyes like a top.

Having been bullied as a kid for her unique looks, Winnie became a contestant on the program America's Next Top Model, and now finds herself as one of the most in-demand models in the world. She sat down to talk about her whirlwind of a career -- and to ask her Canadian fans one question in particular.

I remember the day my agent told me to lose 2 inches off my hips and that my thighs were getting too big. She suggested that I try yoga to tone down. I was devastated. She didn't see how hard I was trying to be thin. I was dieting and hardly eating just to keep my stick-thin frame. It was then that I decided to give up on modeling because I was ruining my body.

In case you haven't heard, Calvin Klein is the latest clothing company to come out with a campaign that has a lot of people extremely pissed off. The campaign is called, "Perfectly Fit" and it features model Myla Dalbesio modeling what Calvin Klein is calling their "plus sized" underwear. It should come as no surprise that 27-year-old Myla is not what most people would consider anything even close to plus sized. I suppose I understand the outrage in principal, but why are people still so shocked when a company that is known for promoting one kind of beauty continues to do just that? Frankly, if Calvin Klein wanted to do something seriously shocking, they would use a model who was older than 25 years old and wore a size bigger than a four.

The funny thing about today's cattle call casting was that the girls were all hanging out in the lobby of the Mondrian Hotel in bikinis. The girls were checking each other out, as well as guests and staff practically walking into walls with all these beautiful women half naked in the lobby. It was so random but so funny to observe and be part of! A teenage boy's dream!

Victoria's Secret wanted to meet with me -- I almost fainted at the thought! It was a girl's dream come true. I barely slept and I woke up with the world's largest pimple, probably the biggest one I have ever had. I was told to strip down and stand against this white wall where multiple photos were taken of me while these two ladies went through my portfolio.
Before I started modelling, I was about 30 pounds heavier. Losing the weight was extremely difficult and was brought on by my first modelling job. I had dropped about 20 pounds by the time I tested for Guess and it had taken me about two and a half months.
Like the ancient Greek poet Sappho, I revere women. Rubenesque. Skinny. Tall. Short. Old. Young. Hourglass. Pear. Every woman. But when I contemplate fashion's cult of perfection and the rise of eating disorders and so-called "fat-shaming," I think beauty standards have become a form of tyranny.
Ramp1885 is down south -- in South America that is -- for Colombia Moda 2013, Colombia's official fashion week held in magical Medellin. While running from one show to the next, we quickly made it a point to grab some shots of the fantastic street styles as donned by the Medellin's moda mavens.
I was recently at a beauty-related event where models were used to show off the product. Most of the models there were of the fashion variety -- very tall and extremely thin. I've always pondered on why it is. After all, the models there were present for beauty demonstrations, whether it be hair or make-up, not there to show clothing.
Israel's has recently banned "too-skinny" models requiring they must have a BMI of at least 18.5 in order to work. There are very strict rules about using models who fall below the magic number. However, this ruling is unfair.
BMI is, after all, not always an indicator of health -- there have been many publications that have proven that. For example, people with very light bones and athletes are more likely to fall out of said number, and still be relatively healthy. In addition, one can meet these minimum requirements, yet still look extremely thin -- muscle, after all, weighs more than fat.
