The cover of Foreign Policy's May/June 2012 issue is raising controversy for it's photo depicting a nude woman with a niqab painted on her body, with the title "Why Do They Hate Us?" I am thrilled to see the Muslim debate raised to a level I have been longing for.
The student who took a photo of a women in Muslim veil holding a bra undoubtedly offended religious fundamentalists. But so what? This is Canada. People have the right to express their religious beliefs freely. Canada is not answerable to Saudi Arabia.
I know bras can get people stirred up, but I think we all need to calm down a little over the recent photo of a Muslim woman in a niqab and abaya holding one up.
