"Can't we all just shop together?"
We keep women of size behind a curtain like she doesn't exist or matter when the reality is she is athletic, fashion-conscious, and pop-culture savvy with incredible buying power.
Whenever I dropped weight it was stunning how people suddenly started speaking with me again at family functions and started acknowledging my existence. Of course, whilst they pressured me to devour the high fat food they had prepared. Instead of boosting my confidence, it reminded me that people can be fickle jerks.

By separating two body types into "plus-size" and "straight size," the fashion industry is telling us that we have to either identify as the same size as the general public or not. In case you haven't heard, Calvin Klein is the latest clothing company to come out with a campaign that has a lot of people extremely pissed off. The campaign is called, "Perfectly Fit" and it features model Myla Dalbesio modeling what Calvin Klein is calling their "plus sized" underwear. It should come as no surprise that 27-year-old Myla is not what most people would consider anything even close to plus sized. I suppose I understand the outrage in principal, but why are people still so shocked when a company that is known for promoting one kind of beauty continues to do just that? Frankly, if Calvin Klein wanted to do something seriously shocking, they would use a model who was older than 25 years old and wore a size bigger than a four.

Lululemon founder, Chip Wilson, recently said that the problem with his company's yoga pants is really a problem with some women's bodies. It appears they believe that plus-sized women don't engage in yoga, and what's more, they shouldn't deserve to. Why? Because their bodies don't work with Lululemon's vision of what someone engaging in yoga should look like.

The very first modelling agency I applied to was Wilhelmina Models. I was told to leave my photos with the receptionist and then wait in a sitting area with six or seven other girls. Finally my name was called. "Have you ever considered plus size modeling?" asked an agent. I was humiliated.
