Outlasting your own scene can make you feel both lonely and invincible with a dash of bitterness. I'm managing to keep the bitterness at bay, although you'd have to ask my eye-rolling bandmates if I'm succeeding. If METZ is the beginning of things to come, perhaps the pendulum will swing back to a time before monikers like "hipster" were divisively implemented.
Canada's punk history is worth remembering and worth celebrating. It forms the foundation of a proud alternative underground that has grown and thrived. Punk was the antidote to a staid dominant culture. If the bands on the radio are garbage, start your own. If the bar down the street won't let you play, start your own bar in a basement. And if your city is boring, it's up to you to find a way to make it vibrant and exciting. Punk wasn't theorizing and complaining. Punk was action.
The Monks are a band that I have loved for a very long time in a lot of different ways. Bad Habits -- their first record -- has always been a failsafe for van listening on long drives for various tours for various bands: It's a record that has never let me down, that sounds good wherever you listen to it, no matter what you're doing. That's why we're releasing a cover album.
