In many parts of Africa and Asia, walking takes on a whole different meaning. That's because many women and children in these developing areas have to walk six kilometres every day to get water for their family. It's not a stroll in the park, or a breezy city walk -- it's a dangerous, hot, painful journey to provide for the needs of their families.
Our sense of what is realistic or not might actually limit our own possibility. Consider running a four-minute mile. It was thought to be impossible until Roger Bannister broke the four-minute barrier in 1954. The record now stands at 3:43 and the mile has been run in under four minutes at least 4,500 times.

Last year, I ran the Boston marathon with Team World Vision to raise money for clean water projects in developing countries. I'm planning on doing so again this year. Training for marathons requires discipline and motivation over a long period of time, much like what's required to form any new habit or routine.

The regular three-hour-a-day training of their professional lives is on hold along with so much else as they wait to hear if Canada will accept them. "Life is day-to-day," says Dawit. Run For Women
As an elite athlete, I'm hyper attuned to my body and what it's trying to tell me. One of the privileges of being a high-profile athlete is that I have the opportunity to speak to many organizations, school groups, and fitness classes. I'm often asked what motivates me to sacrifice so much in order to train at the level I do.
Physical activity makes us feel happy and more productive. We're more open to learning and more apt to share topics on a run than over a lunch. Perhaps the girls would learn a little more about themselves, be part of something bigger and take away tools to help them in their future.

My journey has taken me to Team Canada with the hopes of securing a spot at the Paralympic Games in Rio. I hope that my story can enlighten others about the devastation that meningococcal disease can cause, and also show others going through similar situations that you can do anything once you set your mind to it.

Mental illness can interfere with everyday living such as parenting, work, eating, personal hygiene, decision making and school. Here's where I come in. I'm a runner and I've participated in this event with my girlfriends. I've also suffered postpartum depression and anxiety.
There are so many great benefits of running and it can become a healthy lifestyle addiction. It's an easy (once you get the hang of it), inexpensive sport that will help you get fit and also get you outside of your normal exercise routine. Trust me when I say, if you can walk, you can run!
