Barely 48 hours after the collapse, rescue efforts were called off -- until Premier Dalton McGuinty intervened and locals vehemently protested. Good lord! Don't the Emergency Measures people know that rescuers are supposed to risk their lives to save others?

Earlier this month we gave our reasons for loving Canada. Some of our reasons were serious (we're a pretty great country to be a new mom, for example)...

Canada Day is a time to celebrate a great Canadian citizenship. For immigrants such as myself, it gives us a rare chance to celebrate great milestones. For instance, Jemy Joseph has only been in Canada just over a decade but she has achieved more than her share. As a medical student, she's a shining example of what immigrants contribute to the fabric of Canada's identity.

I have crossed oceans and travelled miles to come to Canada, not because of its weather, to watch hockey or to enjoy what Tim Horton's has to offer on its menu. Many people choose Canada to enjoy a life of liberty and freedom -- freedom of conscience and religion; freedom of thought and belief, freedom of opinion and expression; freedom of peaceful assembly; and freedom of association as guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedom.

Canada may be better known in the world for hockey and maple syrup but one of the greatest contributions Canada has made to the world is improvement of local and global health. This list epitomizes Canada's role in improving the health of not only Canadians, but also of the world's population.

I love Canada as a Jew, because religious Jews can walk to synagogue on Shabbat with their side curls and religious garb visible to all unlike France where such a display could be dangerous. We are a 'multifaith' country. אני אוהב את קנדה (Hebrew: I love Canada)

Canada is unpredictable. And no clearer example of this can be found than in our variable weather conditions (especially where I live out East). But although the weather is unpredictable, we know how to look on the bright side. Rather than glass half empty, it's a cuppa Red Rose tea half full, eh!
