The seventh Sustainable Development Goal is to "ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Access to reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all is a goal that can be achieved if people take the initiative to learn more about the problem, and be willing to make the transition to modern, cleaner energy.
Instead, they'll create a "sustainable future fund."

While a professional home energy audit will be more accurate, you can do your own and get a general idea of which issues to tackle first.

Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals have such a grand, evocative ring, and they include a goal on energy, a huge concern for everyone's future. So what does the goal ask for -- and can we meet it?
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." To see that quote brought to life we went to Cochrane High School in Cochrane, Alberta about a half-hour west of Calgary.

The G7 committed to eliminating the use of the fossil fuels by the end of the century. Canada and Alberta should be leading the transition, taking advantage of our tremendous solar and wind resources and supporting workers and communities in the process.
Hawaii set an ambitious goal in May this year; to be the first state to be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy by 2045. The conversion will be phased in; 30 per cent renewable by the end of 2020, 70 per cent by the end of 2040 to 100 per cent by the end of 2045. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison will play a pivotal role in Hawaii's quest for 100 per cent renewables.

You can still go on road trips. But instead of visiting China, why not visit those countries that are heavily investing in sustainable, renewable resources? You wouldn't have to go far. Just a quick trip to California. With "the world's eighth-largest economy in 2013," accepting that climate change is a reality -- it is quickly moving away from its dependency on fossil fuel. Certainly B.C. could follow suit.
