A Faith-Based Law School? Now There's an Oxymoron

Pushers for Trinity Western and its faith-based law school -- which is an oxymoron up there with civil war and old news -- would like you to believe this whole deal is about religious freedom. How can any law school be able to create, foster, and spit out our next generation of lawyers when it doesn't hold our values? Not just Canadian values but simple human-to-human values.

Don't Lump Homosexuals in With Criminals

Homosexuality is not a criminal behaviour. It is a sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is like race, religion, ethnicity, sex, age and all the other prohibited grounds of discrimination found in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and in human rights legislation in every Canadian jurisdiction. I assume they'll teach this at TWU Law School. If they miss this fundamental, but not fundamentalist, point, they're in danger of their law degree having the same currency as a diploma from the Amish Institute of Technology.

Does Christian Law School Stunt Moral Progress?

Law students and associations across Canada have a bone to pick with Trinity Western University's aspirations to be Canada's first Christian law school. Given that it's controversial and it involves conservative Christians, no surprise it's also about sex. Still less surprise, it's about same-sex. Whenever someone is arguing for something, it's fair and often quite enlightening to look for his or her basic operating assumption. The conservative Christian obsession with homosexuality is no secret, but what exactly is its basis?
