When you add in the damage to roads, schools and clinics, combined with the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera that are increasing due to flooding, the people of Haiti are in desperate need. But they are also resilient. These photos tell a story of great tragedy, community cooperation, and the strength of Haiti's people to get up and begin rebuilding.

Why Food Charity Won't Solve Canada's Hunger Problem

Food insecurity is not as simple as being hungry, it encompasses experiencing fear about not having enough food to eat. A portion of these people head to food banks, which have seen overall visits rise in the past few years to nearly 900,000 visits each month. If the government thinks that food charity constitutes 'doing something' about food security, they need to think again.

Celebrating Save the Children Day

Today is World Food Day. Every child has a right to food. I recently returned from Bangladesh where I lead a group of Canadian supporters as we visited maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition programs. The trip once again demonstrated to me how sustainable change requires the engagement of donor and local government, communities, and civil society.
