THE CANADIAN PRESS -- EDMONTON - Animal rights advocate and former game-show host Bob Barker is entering the debate over a shuttered private zoo in central Alberta.
Barker, who for years led the long-running show "Price is Right," says he wants to see all the animals at GuZoo protected by the province — not just the exotic ones.
The province said earlier this month it would no longer issue the zoo at Three Hills a permit because an independent review found deficiencies in its operations.
Owner Lynn Gustafson has since suggested he may reopen as an unlicensed facility with only domestic animals.
The province says he has that right as long as the animals are domestic.
Barker admits he has never been to GuZoo, but says he believes reports of animal abuse done by Zoocheck, one of the groups leading the charge against the facility.
