Arvid Loewen, Winnipeg Grandfather, Sets Unofficial Record, Fastest Bike Across Canada

THE CANADIAN PRESS -- HALIFAX - A 54-year-old grandfather of three has set an unofficial record for the fastest bike ride across Canada.

Arvid Loewen of Winnipeg completed the Vancouver-to-Halifax journey in 13 days, six hours and 13 minutes.

Loewen arrived at Halifax City Hall at 6:13 p.m. AT Thursday to complete the 6,055-kilometre crossing almost three hours faster than the previous best time.

Guinness World Records has yet to confirm Loewen's time.

Loewen accepted donations during the ride for Mully Children's Family, a non-profit organization that cares for 2,000 street children in Kenya.

He estimates he raised at least $350,000 in donations during the cross-Canada trek.
