THE CANADIAN PRESS -- No last-minute candidates emerged in the race for the leadership of the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party when the nomination period closed Friday afternoon.
Doug Griffiths, Doug Horner, Gary Mar, Ted Morton, Rick Orman and Alison Redford paid their fee and filed their papers with the party by the 5 p.m. deadline.
All six had earlier declared their intention to run to replace Ed Stelmach as PC party leader. Stelmach is stepping down as leader and premier Oct. 1.
The candidates will appear at the first of seven party-sponsored public forums in Vermilion on July 21.
The first ballot will take place on Sept. 17. If there is no clear winner on the first ballot, a second ballot with the top three finishers will be held on Oct. 1.
