THE CANADIAN PRESS -- TORONTO - Business communications software and hardware company Aastra Technologies Limited (TSX:AAH) reports its second quarter net profits rose on higher revenues.
The Toronto-area company said late Wednesday it earned $6.1 million or 43 cents a share for the three months ended June 30.
That compared with earnings of $5.1 million or 36 cents for the same 2010 period.
Sales increased to $174.1 million from $170.3 million.
Meanwhile, research and development expenses dropped to $15.8 million from $16.6 million.
The company also booked a foreign exchange gain of $0.3 million due to the strengthening of the Euro and Swiss franc against the Canadian dollar.
That compared with a foreign exchange loss of $1.6 million a year ago.
Aastra is based in Concord, north of Toronto, and sells IP-based and traditional communications terminals, systems and software.
