GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Caribbean Airlines says there were 12 Canadians aboard their flight that crashed in Guyana early Saturday morning.

The crash caused several injuries but no deaths among the 163 people who were on board.

Foreign Affairs in Ottawa issued a statement saying it has been in contact with local authorities and was told one of the Canadians aboard suffered a minor injury.

It says consular aid is being made available if needed.

The plane overshot the runway at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in rainy weather after departing from New York.

Guyana's Health Minister Leslie Ramsammy says more than 30 people were taken to the hospital.

But he says only three of those had to be admitted for a broken leg, bumps, cuts and bruises.
