Caribbean Carnival Parade: Shooting Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

CP

TORONTO - A 30 year old man has been killed and two other people wounded in a shooting incident involving Toronto police.

It happened Saturday evening along the route (Lakeshore Rd W) of Toronto's annual Caribbean Carnival parade after the parade was over.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit issued a statement early Sunday morning saying police responded to a report of a disturbance involving three men and that shots were fired when the officers interacted with the men.

The statement said three people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds — the man who died, a woman who was undergoing surgery, and another man who suffered a minor injury.

No names or other details about the incident were released.

The SIU, which reviews all police actions that result in death or serious injury, says it has assigned nine investigators to the case.

Toronto's Caribbean Carnival, formerly known as Caribana, is touted as the largest festival of Caribbean culture in North America.

Tens of thousands of people had lined the parade route Saturday afternoon.
