Saskatchewan Government Insurance workers ratify contract

SASKATOON - Members of the union representing 1,500 Saskatchewan Government Insurance workers have ratified a new contract.

The deal between the employers and the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union includes a 7 1/2 per cent wage increase over four years.

It also includes a guarantee that SGI won't lay off any permanent employees between now and the end of 2013.

The agreement is retroactive to January of last year.

SGI spokesman Andrew Cartmell says the new contract provides stability for employees, customers and the company.

Staff had refused to work overtime to back their contract demands, but the union lifted the ban when a tentative deal was reached last month. (CJWW)
