Montreal police are still trying to piece together what led to the city's 26th homicide of the year. They are also trying to identify the man shot to death shortly after 4 a.m. Monday.
The victim died shortly after being transported to hospital.
A number of people called to report hearing shots ring out early on Monday morning, but police are having a hard time finding information about the man because he was not carrying any identification.
"Just by looking at the man who was sent to hospital, we can say that he's probably in his 40s," said police spokesperson Olivier Lapointe.
Lapointe said police don't have any suspects and investigators are interviewing neighbours who might have seen or heard what led to the shooting.
"Some people are talking about a possible fight that started in the parking lot before the gunshots so we're tying to see if we can get more out of that," Lapointe said.
The shooting is Montreal's 26th homicide of the year.
