Manitoba New Democrats promise more cash for fight against cancer

WINNIPEG - Manitoba New Democrats are promising more help for people with cancer.

Premier Greg Selinger says if he's re-elected Oct. 4, the government will cover the entire cost of cancer treatment and drugs — with no deductibles for patients.

Selinger also says he would hire eight more pathologists and improve services at the province's 16 rural chemotherapy locations.

He is also promising to double the $2.5 million a year the province spends on community-based stop-smoking programs.

Selinger says the total price tag for the promises is $19.5 million a year.
