Smoke from prescribed burn in B.C. prompts advisory for Calgary and area

CALGARY - Alberta Health has issued a precautionary smoke advisory for Calgary and surrounding communities.

It is due to a prescribed burn in Yoho National Park.

Other communities under the advisory include Banff, Bragg Creek, Canmore, Cochrane, Cremona, Kananaskis, Lake Louise, Morley, and Sundre.

Officials say smoke conditions can vary depending on current weather conditions and prevailing winds.

The advisory will remain in effect through Wednesday, when the prescribed burn is expected to end.

A prescribed burn is done to rid forests of old growth, which could cause a wildfire.
