MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - The board of Alberta Health Services has approved the appointment of 16 people to a new provincial advisory council on cancer.

Eight members are experts in the field and eight are members of the public.

The council's objective is to gather feedback from the public and suggest ways to provide timely, quality care.

Dr. Anthony Fields, former vice-president of cancer care for Alberta Health Services, has been appointed chairman for a three-year term.

The council is to hold its first meeting in Edmonton next month.
