Woman with history of violence keeps Edmonton police at bay with air rifle

EDMONTON - A 51-year-old woman has been charged after Edmonton police were held at bay at a condo complex for almost 12 hours.

Police say their tactical team and a bomb squad robot were sent to a south-end neighbourhood Monday afternoon to check reports of someone pointing a rifle.

No one was hurt, but surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Negotiators talked to a woman until she surrendered without incident at about 1 a.m.

A lever-action air rifle was confiscated by officers in one of the building's suites.

Cheryl Kerr is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
