The councillor and award-winning Canadian author met at a farewell party for Mayor Rob Ford's arts adviser Tuesday night.
Coun. Michael Thompson says he was chatting with Atwood when he spotted Doug Ford, the mayor's brother, and decided to introduce them.
Coun. Ford and Atwood have been in a public fight over the possibility of closing some libraries, although the mayor said this week libraries will remain open.
When Atwood came out in support of libraries earlier this year, Coun. Ford said he wouldn't recognize the author if she walked past him.
After their Tuesday night meeting, Atwood quickly tweeted "He knows what I look like now!"
Thompson says it was a friendly meeting.
"He was very accommodating, he was smiling, he was very warm to her, and she equally was smiling and warm to him," Thompson said.
