SIU Identifies Man Shot Outside Eaton Centre

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has identified a man who was shot by police near the Eaton Centre.

The SIU said Wednesday that Ankur Patel, 24, approached a paid-duty officer at a construction site on Shuter Street and was shot at least once by the officer.

Patel was taken to St. Michael's Hospital on Monday where he remains in serious condition.

Witnesses at the scene told CBC News they saw a man run towards an officer with something that resembled a knife.

The SIU, which investigates when a police action leads to injury, death or sexual assault, has identified one subject officer and five witness officers.
