PBO to release report on spending trends across federal departments and agencies

OTTAWA - The Parliamentary Budget Officer is releasing a new report today that looks at Ottawa's deficit fighting plans.

The Expenditure Monitor report will examine trends in spending across federal departments and agencies.

The report is expected to be posted on the budget watchdog's website at 9 a.m. ET.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is looking to find $4 billion in annual savings in his plan to balance the budget by 2014-15.

The global economic upheaval has raised questions about the government's budget due to slower than expected growth around the world.

Flaherty has said he will do what is necessary if the global economic slowdown hits Canada hard, but for now his budget projections remain on track.
