Olympic floor champion could be training in 2-3 weeks after being sidelined as precaution

TOKYO - The injury that sidelined Olympic floor champion Sandra Izbasa from the world gymnastics championships is not serious, and the Romanian could be training again in two to three weeks.

Izbasa has some swelling in her foot that presses on the nerves and causes pain, Romania coach Octavian Belu said Monday. It's the same foot Izbasa broke in 2009, and Belu said they decided to leave her home rather than risk further damage at the worlds.

The competition, a main qualifier for next summer's London Olympics, begins Friday.

"The first rule of coming to these kinds of competitions is to be in good health," Belu said. "We decided to keep her home and respect the recovery program. Maybe in two, three weeks it will be OK to start the preparation for next year."
