Winnipeg Jets sign first-round pick Mark Scheifele to entry-level contract

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets have signed first-round pick Mark Scheifele to an entry-level contract.

The six-foot-two, 182-pound centre was taken seventh overall by Winnipeg in the June entry draft.

Scheifele led all Jets in scoring with eight points (four goals, four assists) in five pre-season games.

The 18-year-old had 22 goals and 53 assists last year with the Ontario Hockey League's Barrie Colts.

Scheifele also led all Canada scorers with six goals in seven games at the world under-18 hockey championship in April.

Winnipeg opens the NHL regular season at home to Montreal on Sunday.
