Contracts for 2,700 health-sector workers in Nova Scotia go to vote

HALIFAX - About 2,700 unionized clerical staff and support services workers at the Capital District Health Authority in Nova Scotia have new tentative contracts.

The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union says no details will be released until members get them.

One tentative deal affects about 1,500 members of Local 246, who include various clerks, medical transcriptionists and secretaries.

The other involves about 1,200 members of Local 19, who include laundry workers, mechanics, carpenters, painters, cooks and restaurant workers.

Contracts for both locals expired on Oct. 31, 2009.

The union says dates and locations for ratification votes are being arranged.

Capital Health provides services in central Nova Scotia, including the Halifax area and surrounding communities.
