Owsley makes 19 saves, Tkatch and Thompson score as Cougars blank Pats

REGINA - Drew Owsley made 19 saves and the Prince George Cougars shut out the Regina Pats 2-0 in the Western Hockey League on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first and second period, Jordan Tkatch and Tayler Thompson did all the scoring Prince George (3-3-1) would need in the final period.

Tkatch recorded his fourth goal in as many games, and eventual game winner, when he banged in a rebound seven minutes into the third.

Two minutes later Thompson provided some insurance when he ripped a wrist shot into the top corner. Former Pat Cody Carlson assisted on the play.

The win ended a two game losing spell for Prince George while the loss broke a two game winning streak for Regina (5-2-0).

Owsley made several big saves to preserve the shutout.

Pats goalie Matt Hewitt made 24 stops in the loss, his first of the season.

Before the game the Regina Pats announced it is renaming its Unsung Hero Award the Rick Rypien Award.

Rypien, a former Pat and Vancouver Canuck, died this summer. Rypien's mother Shelley was present for the ceremony and dropped the puck before the game.
